The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting, and bloody confrontations with ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen’s rule remains absolute, enforced by her dreaded Claw assassins. For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, their lone surviving mage, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities, yet holds out.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing, I bought the book based on other reviews everyone seemed so excited about the series available. I've listened for two hours and still don't get it. I'm giving up and moving on wished I had not wasted my credit.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure but not this series. I may listed to the Dresden series again.

What didn’t you like about Ralph Lister’s performance?

Nothing against the performance the book is just not to my liking it's slow and confusing can't find the story line.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Major disappointment.

The end is coming. Logen Ninefingers might only have one more fight in him but it’s going to be a big one. Battle rages across the North, the King of the Northmen still stands firm and there’s only one man who can stop him. His oldest friend and his oldest enemy. It’s time for the Bloody-Nine to come home. With too many masters and too little time, Superior Glokta is fighting a different kind of war. A secret struggle in which no-one is safe and no-one can be trusted.

Aglirta is a once-prosperous land that has fallen into tyranny with the ensorcellment of the King. A warrior, a thief, and a healer must turn their backs on their ordinary lives and join with sorceress Lady Embra Silvertree - the Lady of Jewels - in a last-ditch attempt to awaken the Sleeping King and restore him to his rightful throne.

    Overall

Of all the books I've downloaded this is my first complete disappointment. The narration is so poor that half way through the book I still have no idea of the plot. I'm totally lost. This one I would really like to return way too much cost for nothing.
