Great Narration
Yes
A great story about a true American Hero. I'm a firefighter and a SWAT Medic and always thought i was pretty tough but am humbled by this story...all the more so because of the times it brought me almost to tears.
"He didn't reply...."
This was my first Reacher novel and I really wanted to like it. I like the main character and the premise, but does the author have to continually state that the character doesn't respond to a dialouge or activity? I know it is nit picking but it drove me crazy and took away from what could have been a great story. Does Child do this in the other Reacher novels? I'd hate to get another one if he does.
"Not bad but........."
I like the concept of this book and was really looking forward to the story. The minutia, however, really bogged the story down. I embrace the idea of preparedness and the survival mindset and was hoping this book would be entertaining as well as informative. It was a bit too informative and every minute detail of everyone's equipment slowed the story to a crawl time and time again. The characters were underdeveloped and pretty one demensional as well. I think the concept of this book has a lot of potnetial, it just wasn't realized in this one.
"Great Listen"
The story was riveting, characters you care about. Gives a whole new perspective to the tribulations of the bush soldiers in Nam. I hope Marlantes writes a sequel.
"Wish I had read this instead of listened"
John Lee isn't a bad narrator. He's not in the same league with Roy Dotrice though. The thing that bothered me the most was the differnce in pronunciation of some of the characters names and other key elements of the story. I was listening to the first chapter about Sansa for two minutes before I figured out the character prononced "Peter" was actually Petyr Baelish (prononce pe-tire by Dotrice). IMHO it is bad form to change a narrator this far into the series, especially one that did so well and really added depth to the characters I've grown to love. Please bring back Roy, or even better, have him re-read this book. I'll buy it again to hear Roy. The story is great otherwise.
"A bit of a let down"
I was really looking forward to using this program. Unfortunately there is background music that makes it very difficult to follow what is being said, as the music is almost as loud as the speakers.
