I can only listen to Will Patton read James Lee Burke. I tried his other narrator, and could not get past the first disk. Will Patton IS Dave and Clete and Helen, and all the rest as he reads the novels of Burke. No one else can hold a candle--I will have to read Jolie Blon's Bounce for myself--pity Will Patton didn't read that one also!
Only with another narrator.
I couldn't listen to the whole book--didn't get past the first disk. I am requesting a refund so that I can purchase the book on my e-reader.
Her performance of the male characters was so irritating that I just couldn't listen to the book.
I wouldn't have cut anything, I would just have had the narrator read in a normal voice.
I love Alex Kava's books--she needs to screen her reader's more carefully--readers like Joyce Bean do a wonderful job of reading both male and female voices without being so irritating!
I paid $17 for this before I realized that it had a new narrator (other than the other Tally Whyte books--I can't even begin to get into it--Help! This narrator is awful!
I wish I could get my money back on this one! I have always been a die-hard Cornwell fan, and have read or listened to everything she has ever written. The only other one I didn't care for was Southern Cross. The anger exuded by Scarpetta, Lucy, and other characters in this book was more than a "downer," as if Cornwell was having a psychotic or depressive moment and wanted to share it with all of her fans. The raving madness just went on and on without any of the usual bright spots that make her books a joy to read. Yes, murder and mayhem and postmortems are sometimes depressing, but Cornwell usually makes her books a fun read anyway. Something happened with this one, however, and the madness is just a little too much!
