Death-row prisoners with nightmare pasts and no future…. Until they were selected for a secret experiment….to create something more than human.

Now they are the future and humanity's worst nightmare has begun. The Twelve is the epic sequel to The Passage. Read by Scott Brick.

I was a huge fan of The Passage so was awaiting the release of the next installment with great enthusiasm. The Twelve did not dissapoint, it delivered with regards to both plot and character development. The writing was magnificent and the performance was excellent, which only enhanced the story and made this one of the most pleasurable experiences I have had with an audio book.

Stealth. Gorgon. Regenerator. Cerberus. Zzzap. The Mighty Dragon. They were heroes. Vigilantes. Crusaders for justice, using their superhuman abilites to make Los Angeles a better place. Then the plague of living death spread around the globe. Despite the best efforts of the superheroes, the police, and the military, the hungry corpses rose up and overwhelmed the country. The population was decimated, heroes fell, and the city of angels was left a desolate zombie wasteland like so many others.

Why didn't I think of writing a book that combines super heroes and zombies? This book and its sequel have become my secret guilty pleasure. The story flows well and the performances are excellent. Very entertaining.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

This book was a real disapointment for me given how much I enjoyed Ex-Heroes. The concept was good but I felt it dragged early and then got silly (even allowing for the fact that the "silly bar" is quite high in this genre). Part of my problem with this book is that I actually found most of the characters likeable and engaging, so was therefore upset when the plot was so uninspiring.

The president of the United States vanishes from the White House. A top-secret prototype stealth fighter is destroyed during a test flight. Witnesses on the ground say that it was shot down by a craft that immediately vanished at impossible speeds. All over the world, reports of UFOs are increasing at an alarming rate. And in a remote fossil dig in China dinosaur hunters have found something that is definitely not of this earth.

I have become a bit of a fan of Jonathon Maberry since I picked up Patient Zero in a book store a couple of years ago. This continuation of Joe Ledger's adventures didn't dissapoint, This is not great literature but it never intends to be, it is a "boys own adventure" that is well researched and flows nicely. I especially enjoyed the performance, the narrator has the right tone and 'tude for the main character.

On a fateful night in 2009, Tyler Hamilton and Daniel Coyle met for dinner at a restaurant in Boulder, Colorado. The two had met five years before while Coyle was writing his best-selling book Lance Armstrong: Tour de Force. But this time, Tyler had something else on his mind. He finally wanted to come clean, about everything: the doping, the lying, his years as Lance Armstrong's teammate on U.S. Postal, and his decade spent running from the truth.

This book answers a lot of the questions a non-athlete would ask about why someone would dope. It comes across as being an honest account by someone who readily admits their own failings as a person. A very interesting insight into the world of professional bike racing and doping generally.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

My daughters (5 and 7) loved this story and have listened to it several times already. The quality of the performance is such that it is even bareable for adults to cope with multiple listens.
