Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

The story was solid, filled with action, fun characters with enough depth that they didn't fall flat. I would definitely read the book, and I might even listen to it again, though I doubt it. The voice acting was usually really good, different voices for each character and it was easy to discern whom was speaking, despite the ensemble cast. However, every time a character was exclaiming or really emoting, it seems like the voice actor pulled back too much, and the moment came across funny or ironic, rather than powerful.

Gail Carriger’s best-selling Parasol Protectorate series reimagines Victorian England with vampires, werewolves, and a dash of steampunk. Blameless is the third in the series starring the parasol-wielding Lady Alexia Maccon, formerly Alexia Tarabotti. After news spreads of her delicate condition—a surprise to everyone since she’s married to a werewolf—Alexia is desperate to escape the London gossip. So she heads to Italy for a change of scenery.

    "Great Story, TERRIBLE EDITING"

It took me a while to get into this series, but I have really enjoyed it. Emily Gray does a wonderful job with character voices, and the story itself was fast-paced and fun. The editing, however, was terrible. There were uncomfortably long pauses between sections and chapters, punctuated by the sound of a deeply indrawn breath. I found myself checking my iPod to see if I'd accidentally hit the pause button or otherwise messed something up. Very strange, but sill well worth listening.

Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and recently turned vampire Merit can't tell if this is the darkness before the dawn or the calm before the storm. With the city itself in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal-registration act, times haven't been this precarious for vampires since they came out of the closet. If only they could lay for a bit, and let the mortals calm down. But that's when the waters of Lake Michigan suddenly turn pitch black - and things really start getting ugly.

I adore this series. I listened to the first one a few months ago, and then listened to books 2-5 in about three weeks straight. In some ways, this book was my favorite. The character development was solid, the pace was unrelenting, and there were major changes in the world. But I new who the villain was by about a quarter way through the book. I still enjoyed it, but I wish I hadn't seen it coming. There were a couple good twists, and as I said, I did love this book. Definitely worth the listen.

I listened to this book back in March and immediate brought all the sequels. I still think about them as great listening experiences and I've just decided to listen again to help get me through the winter months. I strongly recommend these books (even if the narrator's "southern" accent isn't spectacular).

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I found the writing heavy handed and not particularly creative. The narrator mispronounced words. I spent more time rolling my eyes than enjoying the story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her accents were inconsistent and she mispronounced a number of the Greek words (and some of the English ones).

Was Night Pleasures worth the listening time?

    No.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

Where does Ready Player One rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I've listened to a LOT of audiobooks in the last few years, and there are some series I'm totally loyal to. This beats all. The story, the humor, and Wil Wheaton's performance are all incredible. I laughed out loud multiple times during a marathon practice run! No one laughs during that misery!

I enjoyed the geek "in" jokes, and I appreciated the 80s nostalgia, even though I'm too young to get a fair number of the references. I enjoyed this so much that I went out and got the hard cover so I could loan it to friends. Buy this book. I'm serious. Do it now!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ready Player One?

Too many. The entire hunt for the egg was well done and the conclusion was excellent--very satisfying. There is a moment where Wil Wheaton as narrator refers to himself in text :). I think they picked exactly the right narrator for this novel.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the deus ex machina moment where Og appears to save the day. Also loved the Oingo Boingo reference in the beginning.

Was there a moment in the book that particular moved you?

The discussion between Samantha and Wade at the end. It was sweet and sincere.

    Any additional comments?

Seriously, this is one of the best books I've read/heard in a VERY long time.

I really liked the book, the plot, the characters, etc. It's as well written as Shinn's other novels, though it was a little anti-climatic after the fourth book. The major problem was Ellison's narration. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't as good as those that came before.
