In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys - best friends - are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire.     A brilliant meditation on faith, fate, and human decency. The narration by Joe Barrett is flawless and hysterical. He and John Irving made me laugh on many occasions throughout this book. But, like all great novels and readings, they did something more: they instructed me in the virtue of empathy.
