Khaled Hosseini, the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations.

What would have made And the Mountains Echoed better?

The story felt disconnected to me.

How could the performance have been better?

I feel an accent other than the language in which the reader is reading is very distracting and can be difficult to listen to. I don't like to have to 'try' when I'm listening.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

What made the experience of listening to Unbroken the most enjoyable?

Waiting to hear what was going to happen next.

What did you like best about this story?

The resilience of the main character. The fact that things were not perfect for him post war. The way he got through.

Have you listened to any of Edward Herrmann’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

That it is based on fact.

The conflict surrounding the ethical decison of whether or not to allow Charlie Cullen to donate a kidney.

What about Will Collyer’s performance did you like?

    Good job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Repeated mispronounciation of a drug was a bit irritating. Other than that, excellent.
