  • Hell's Angel: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club

Narrated by the visionary founding member, Hell's Angel provides a fascinating all-access pass to the secret world of the notorious Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club. Sonny Barger recounts the birth of the original Oakland Hell's Angels and the four turbulent decades that followed. Hell's Angel also chronicles the way the HAMC revolutionized the look of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle and built what has become a worldwide bike-riding fraternity, a beacon for freedom-seekers the world over.

    Story

I actually had more respect for Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels before reading this book. The book is merely comprised of first hand recollections of the trials, tribulations and growing pains of a criminal organization which I fully expected before buying this book. What I didn't expect was Mr. Barger playing the wrongly accused innocent victim stance on most of the legal actions taken against the club in a supposed unjust legal environment. However, I continued reading the book with an open mind until the recollection of the infamous Rolling Stones free concert at Altamont Speedway, California. Barger actually attempted to justify the stabbing murder of Meredith Hunter at the hands of Hell's Angels members by placing the blame on the band and the venue instead of the hands of those with the knives. I would have had more respect for the man if he would have fessed up to the wrongdoings instead of pushing the blame off on others. In a nutshell, were it not for an amazing streak of luck and legal technicalities, Sonny Barger should be behind bars for life instead of whining about how he had been so unfairly pursued by authorities. Disappointing.

My only criticism was with the occasional interruption of the story by Blake Crouch himself. I didn't care about how the storyline or character development came about for the tv series...I only cared that the abrupt interruptions were a distraction from what I thought was a very good story. The afore mentioned "Author's notes" felt very self promoting and in a way seemed like a very transparent attempt to elicit interest in a show instead of staying true to the story. I like to get lost in a book without commercial interruptions.

Sebastien Ranes’s single mom and her feckless boyfriend can’t be bothered to take care of a stuttering 12-year-old. Banished to live with his grandmother on the far side of the country, the boy can barely understand a bus schedule when he gets dumped at the Greyhound station in Stockton, California. Given $35 and a one-way ticket to Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sebastien must cross the country - alone, without a clue how to fend for himself. Filled with youthful anger and naïveté, Sebastien heads out into the "Morning in America" of Ronald Reagan’s 1980s.

Autobiography of the King of Porn In the world of adult cinema, one name stands out above all others: John Holmes. For nearly 20 years, from 1967 to 1987, Holmes reigned as the undisputed king of X-rated films, having appeared in a record 2,200 plus productions, from the landmark Johnny Wadd movies (one of which became the first adult motion picture to gross over $1 million) to the legendary Insatiable with Marilyn Chambers.

Hugely disappointed. I thought the life of John C. Holmes would have been at least mildly interesting...it wasn't. I even held out until the 4th hour of the story until I just couldn't listen anymore and the book was only 5 hours long. I've listened too many books on Audible and this one I would have to rank at dead last. Don't bother with this drivel.

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

In the more shadowy corners of the world, frequented by angels and demons and everything in between, Laytham Ballard is a legend. It's said he raised the dead at the age of 10, stole the Philosopher's Stone in Vegas back in 1999, and survived the bloodsucking kiss of the Mosquito Queen. Wise in the hidden ways of the night, he's also a cynical bastard who stopped thinking of himself as the good guy a long time ago.

As a sixteen-year-old, Tessa Cartwright was found in a Texas field, barely alive amid a scattering of bones, with only fragments of memory as to how she got there. Ever since, the press has pursued her as the lone surviving "Black-Eyed Susan," the nickname given to the murder victims because of the yellow carpet of wildflowers that flourished above their shared grave. Tessa's testimony about those tragic hours put a man on death row.

There was a time when geeky, squeaky-clean Max Kilgore would never lie or steal or even think about murder. Then he accidentally unearths a devil, and Max's choices are no longer his own. The big red guy has a penchant for couch surfing and junk food - and you should never underestimate evil on a sugar high.

He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Mr. Pinchots narration performance made an already entertaining story even better. There are many characters and intertwining story lines in this book that under normal circumstances would be a little challenging to follow. Bronson gave each character very unique tone and personalities making the whole experience wonderfully enjoyable. I might go as far to say that if I was stuck between choosing one title over another I would choose the one narrated by this gentleman. That being said, I really liked the story and will be buying the other two books in this series.
