What did you love best about John Carter in 'A Princess of Mars'?

It's the scifi story that begat all scifi stories. What's not to love? It's good ol fashioned scifi fun.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    John Carter. Woola.

Seventy thousand years ago, the human race almost went extinct. We survived, but no one knows how.

Until now. The countdown to the next stage of human evolution is about to begin, and humanity might not survive this time. The Immari are good at keeping secrets. For 2,000 years, they've hidden the truth about human evolution. They've also searched for an ancient enemy - a threat that could wipe out the human race. Now the search is over.

    Story
Would you try another book from A. G. Riddle and/or Stephen Bel Davies?

Probably not. While the prose was competently written, I found the story uninspiring. The characters, despite best attempts, were rather flat and 2-dimensional. It read like something Michael Crichton might have written (heavy on plot, light on character) but without his ability to create tension and suspense. The whole story-within-a-story thing was...disruptive. Killed the pace. I was hoping to glean some new creative insight into theories of humanity's evolution. None was found. There was one little creative element I liked, but no spoilers here. Also, I really could not stand the voice Davies used for the main antagonist.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Eh. A wee bit too confusing. No one seems to ask an obvious question. And other things were fairly predictable.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Solid job for the most part. The voice used for antagonist, Dorian Sloane, was annoying, and not in the "love to hate" kind of way, but in the way that makes you wish you were reading this and not listening to it.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Books like this end up as SyFy channel movies.
