  • A Life to Rescue: The True Story of a Child Freed from the Bonds of Autism

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Karen Michelle Graham
    • Narrated By Dory Hayman

The puzzling behavior of a two-year-old boy baffles his parents. Why would a child flap his hand, not respond to his name, and regress in his language skills? A specialist reveals the news: autism. Yet amid the heartache, the couple discover a road to overcoming autism. A Life to Rescue relives the wonder of this child's deliverance, providing a hope available to other young children with autism.

Thomas says: "Definitely must read if interested in ABA therapy"
"Definitely must read if interested in ABA therapy"

This is an inspirational account of a family devoting themselves to their Autistic child. It is always hopeful to hear 'recovery' stories for children diagnosed on the spectrum. I am very appreciated that Mrs. Graham shared her story experience with ABA therapy for her son, (especially from her account) at a time where ABA therapy wasn't readily available to autistic individuals in Austin TX.
Being new to this world of therapies, supplements, interventions, etc., I find it inspiring that her intuition of what would work best for her son paved a path to her son learning and thriving. I gave it 4 stars, because I am quickly learning that not all autistic therapies, supplements, interventions, etc., work for all autistic individuals. IF you are interested in ABA therapy, it is a great story.

  • Younger Next Year: A Guide to Living Like 50 Until You're 80 and Beyond

    • ABRIDGED (7 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By Chris Crowley, Henry S. Lodge
    • Narrated By Don Leslie, Rick Adamson

Younger Next Year is about how to turn back your biological clock. How to become functionally younger every year for the next five to 10 years, and continue to live with vitality and grace into your 80s and beyond.

Sara says: "Great ideas but written for MEN"
"Getting Old doesn't have to suck"

This book is very eye opening. We're all raised to think that as we get older we will slow down, things will start to hurt and we will slowly fade away. This book dispels that myth and teaches you exactly what is happening to our bodies, and how todays lifestyle is killing us, literally.

This is not the type of book I would normally read, but I'm glad I did. It has me on the road to living a much longer and more satisfying life then I would have otherwise, and I'm only in my 40's.

While this book is heavily focused on men, the message works for men and women, and I've encouraged many people to read this book, and even gifted it to a few friends. I'm actually excited about my physical future now.

  • Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Byron Katie, Stephen Mitchell
    • Narrated By Byron Katie, Stephen Mitchell

Out of nowhere, like a fresh breeze in a marketplace crowded with advice on what to believe, comes Byron Katie and what she calls "The Work". In the midst of a normal life, Katie became increasingly depressed. Then one morning, she woke up in a state of absolute joy, filled with the realization of how her own suffering had ended. The freedom of that realization has never left her, and now, in Loving What Is, you can discover the same freedom through The Work.

Dirty Jerry says: "True Confessions of a Guru Junkie"
"Sounds like it was recorded over the phone"

The content of the book is fine, but I can't help but be distracted by the very poor quality of the audio. I've probably read over 100 books from Audible and this is the first time I was so disappointed in the quality. Even for free I would expect better quality.

I am telling you, it doesn't just sound like it was recorded over a telephone, it WAS recorded over a telephone. In this day and age when you can spend a few hundred dollars and record very nice sounding audio into a laptop, there's really no excuse for this to exist. I'm very disappointed Audible. Give me my credit back!

  • Ender's Game: Special 20th Anniversary Edition

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 57 mins)
    • By Orson Scott Card
    • Narrated By Stefan Rudnicki, Harlan Ellison, Gabrielle de Cuir
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Kapila says: "6 titles in the series so far"
"Never been much of a science fiction fan..."

That is, until I started reading the Ender series. I can't even remember how I started, but it was the first time I found myself sitting in the driveway not wanting to get out of the car so that I could just keep listening. Not only that, the book has really stayed with me and I find myself thinking about the book from time to time. The writing and creativity are just mind blowing. This series alone has converted me to a Science Fiction fan. It's been 3 years since my first read of Enders game, and I'm listening to it again now and loving it just as much the second time around. Even if you're not typically into SciFi, I highly recommend you give it a try. Like another reader pointed out, it's slow to start - but stick with it. It gets so good!

  • Couplehood

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Paul Reiser
    • Narrated By Paul Reiser

The Buchmans on Mad About You taught us a lot about love, but mostly they taught us how to laugh. Listen to the couple's male half, Paul Reiser, talk about Couplehood and Babyhood in these two hysterically funny and poignant audiobooks.

Kevin says: "SUPER funny, HORRIBLE sound quality"
"Take a pass on this one"

I read this book years ago when it first came out in print. I remember reading it cover to cover in a single day because I enjoyed it so much. So, I thought it would be fun to read it again on my iPod. After the first hour I turned it off and couldn't remember what I ever liked about it at all. As much as I like Paul Riser, I don't really care for the way he reads the book, and it doesn't help that the audio quality is so bad. I mean so bad that I'm still not convinced it was actually Paul Riser reading the book. You really can't tell for sure! In my opiniion, don't waste your time on this one. Sorry Paul.

  • Success Mastery Academy

    • ABRIDGED (11 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Brian Tracy
    • Narrated By Brian Tracy

Brian Tracy has spent more than 20,000 hours researching and reading on the subject of personal and business success. This is the most comprehensive and advanced seminar on personal success and achievement ever developed. This 16-segment audio program reveals how to set goals, make more money, simplify your life, and supercharge your career.

    J. Sherman says: "Best self help program on Audible"
"Made me want to buy the CD Set"

I thought this was an awesome book, and a good kick in the pants. I found after just a few days of listening I was much more energized about my business and felt like I had the keys to get past a few road blocks that have been holding me back. I'm actually considering buying the full CD set from his site just to get the workbook and notes (however it's pretty expensive at $299). I highly recommend this book for anybody that has their own business, or just feels stuck in a rut. If this book doesn't inspire you, you must be dead.

  • The Husband

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By Holter Graham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

With each and every new novel, Dean Koontz raises the stakes, and the pulse rate, higher than any other author. Now, in what may be his most suspenseful and heartfelt novel ever, he brings us the story of an ordinary man whose extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself, and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.

    David says: "Excellent read!"
    "Well, I liked it"

It seems people are being pretty hard on this book, or maybe I'm just easy to entertain, but I thought the book was interesting and got better as the story developed. Not the BEST book I've ever read, but a good story none the less.

  • Angels and Demons

    • ABRIDGED (7 hrs)
    • By Dan Brown
    • Narrated By Richard Poe

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries - old underground organization - the Illuminati.

Mark Grannis says: "Not history, not theology, just great fiction"
"My favorite Dan Brown book so far"

Even though I really enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, I thought this book was even better. Especially given recent events. Having been to Rome just 2 years ago also really added something to the story for me. I enjoyed this book so much, I found myself missing my exit on the freeway more then once! I highly recommend it.

  • The Second Coming of Steve Jobs

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Alan Deutschman
    • Narrated By Charles Stransky
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From the acclaimed Vanity Fair and GQ journalist - an unprecedented, in-depth portrait of the man whose return to Apple precipitated one of the biggest turnarounds in business history.

Thomas says: "Awesome background on Apple, NeXT, and Pixar."
"Awesome background on Apple, NeXT, and Pixar."

If you have any interest in the computer industry at all, you will love this audio book. I was fascinated by the details that were given throughout the book. I was especially fascinated by the history it gave about Pixar, and the early years of computer animation. And if you have even the slightest interest in Steve Jobs or Apple, you will love it.

Some reviewers said the book was mean spirited, but I didn't get that at all. It seemed blatantly honest. Sometimes that was a good thing, sometimes not, And the use of profanity was few and far between, and was only when it applied to the story. Some people need to loosen up a little.

All in all, it was hands down my best audible purchase yet. I couldn't stand to have to pause my iPod when I got to work, and couldn't wait to pick up with the story when I left.
