"Compelling story well told and read"
The book is surprisingly compelling and very well read
"Excellent book, indifferently read"
An excellent biography which provides a sympathetic and convincing portrayal of Jobs, while not disguising his faults. Unfortunately, the reader appears not to have rehearsed sufficiently. When he comes across a new name he pauses momentarily as though unsure how to pronounce it, putting odd verbal quotes around names.
"Disappointing"
After listening to William Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, this is so disappointing. Rambling and even the reader (who does such a good job with Rise and Fall) seems hesitant at times.
"So well done"
The book has the immediacy of someone who witnessed many of the events chronicled and the excellence of the reader adds to this.
"Artificial characters"
I was hesitant to download something with such a twee title, but decided to go ahead after reading the reviews here. Well, it is not quite as twee as the title, but much worse, most of the characters are just devices so the authors can deliver lectures about their presumably favourite authors. Avoid.
"Weak"
Considering how clever Woody Allen is, this story is just remarkably weak. Seems an odd choice to encourage people to buy the book---maybe all the other stories are even weaker?
"Excellent"
Excellent all round---try it!
"Well written and well read"
Some have complained about the apparent digressions. However, these are eventually all tied together in terms of the motivation of the characters and the plot
"Wonderful"
Wonderful book, excellently read
"Disappointing---apparently poor abridgement"
I had read excellent reviews of the book, but was disappointed with this audiobook. The historical material is very interesting and it is excellently read. The problem is that the narrative is rambling and disjointed. Since the book is so well rated, this appears to be a problem with the abridgement. Save your money and wait for an unabridged version!
