What did you love best about Journey to the Center of the Earth: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry?

I loved the accent and felt drawn in

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

At first I was not a fan, but after 1 to 2 hours I couldn't wait to go for long walks and lose myself on this journey

    Any additional comments?

I'm not a scientist, but enjoyed listening to what people thought about science of the earth years ago.

Guy Carson is a brilliant scientist at GeneDyne, one of the world's foremost biochemical companies. When he is transferred to Mount Dragon, GeneDyne's high-security genetic engineering lab, his good fortune seems too good to be true.

Carson soon finds that it is. He learns that GeneDyne geneticists are tinkering with a common virus with an eye on the enormous profit to be had from a cure for the flu. Their cure involves permanently altering DNA in humans. What's more, Mount Dragon harbors another secret that puts the world at horrifying risk.

What did you like best about Mount Dragon? What did you like least?

This book had great potential, if the authors would have stuck to one story line. They should have stuck with the super bug.

What was most disappointing about Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child ’s story?

The creator of GeneDym is a brilliant geneticist AND computer genius? Yet he's not smart enough to stop production of a blood product that could make people crazy and carry around a vial of a virus that could wipe out humanity? There were so many holes in the story line and absurd side tangents I had to listen to this at a 1.5 speed to get this over with.
A guy spends almost a day in an elevator (don't get me started on the computer program) to talk to a man to stop release of a product and stop playing with a super flu, to then play some stupid game with no calls made? Then we get a very long and detailed journey out in the desert, but we never hear about the people infected. Don't waste your time with this book!

    Which scene was your favorite?

The details of creating the super flu

Was Mount Dragon worth the listening time?

    No way

This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

Miller says: "Good Story, Should have READ it"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I already recommended this book to my mother. Even though post-apocalyptic books are not her favorite, the story and characters were great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course Juliette, but Solo gets a nod since he was surprisingly not crazy.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Does she really need to laugh or sigh when the book says the character did? And the male characters sounded cartoonish. I rolled my eyes a lot!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I found myself listening to this book while cleaning and cooking.

What made the experience of listening to Carnal Innocence the most enjoyable?

The story was great. It felt real unlike some of my prior books. I found myself caught up in the story. The people. I laughed a lot and the main characters were so kind and entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Carnal Innocence?

I wish I could live in this town with these people. The gossip, the stories, the simple living. Loved it all.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he has been my favorite narrator so far.

    Any additional comments?

Can't wait to get more books from this auther and narrator.

  • Hunter: A Thriller

From its first moments, Hunter takes you on a nonstop thrill ride: from the top floor of the CIA, to the marbled corridors of Capitol Hill...from the posh hotels of downtown Washington, to the city's mean, violent streets. It introduces a colorful new hero for our time - and a dazzling heroine every bit his equal. A spy mystery...a crime thriller...a passionate romance: Hunter is a genre-bending novel unlike any you've read. Deviously plotted, filled with vivid characters, and propelled at a breakneck pace.

Michael F. Dickey says: "A great philosophical action romance..."
"Very predictable and annoying to listen to"
    Overall

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I wouldn't want to insult anyone.

Has Hunter turned you off from other books in this genre?

It will be a while till I listen to something like this in a while.

Would you be willing to try another one of Conor Hall’s performances?

Not sure if the voice was making the book worse or the book was making the reading unbearable

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Hunter?

If I was reading the book, I would have just read the vigilante killings. The love scenes were annoying and hard to stomach. Hey you, hey you.

    Any additional comments?

Many times I was just going to download something else, but thought it had to get better.
