This is a great stand alone book. Or an excellent follow up to "The China Study."
As a "backyard" chicken keeper, I loved this book. I am not sure a reader that is not familiar with the joys of chickens would enjoy the book as much, but I loved it and hope it is the first of many books on these wonderful, feathered friends.
Great story, from beginning to end. I was dissapointed that it seemed to end with little possibility of a sequel. Then I just found out there is a sequel that was just released in March, although not in Audible yet. : (
This is incredibly interesting and eye opening. It should be required reading for every doctor, nutritionist.....in fact every american!
I guess this book wouldn't have been so bad if I knew what I was getting. I was under the impression that it was about taking this "new science" and using it to make changes in my own life. It has nothing to do with that. It is strictly about how a lot of the programs that the government, schools, etc..use to direct children and adults into doing the "right" think don't actually work.
I don't think parents will enjoy this book very much. As a adult that has chosen NOT to have children I enjoyed Jen's take on being purposefully childless. Everything she said was spot on. I love her on Chelsey Lately so I was not surprised I like the book. As my title says, I never fell down laughing or busted my gut laughing, but there were quite a few chuckles in this on.
If you've read any of these types of books, you have read them all. I thought this might actually show some insight into the training of these special op soldiers, but, NO it's just more of the same. "I'm a badass. I love my country. I love my family." No insight whatsoever. It wasn't a bad book, just absolutely NOTHING new.
Nothing new in this one. Fasting for health has been around for a very long time. This one promises the ability to "eat whatever you want" on the days you don't fast, but ultimately it comes back to: Eat healthier on the days you don't fast and you'll do better. The bottom line with any healthy nutrition regimen was put best by Michael Pollan:“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” If you want to add fasting or intermittent fasting to this, go for it!
I struggled with the first third of this one. Then it got a bit interesting and continued to get better as time went on. I agree with another person that said,"Could have used a bit of editing." The ending left a little to be desired until I realized that it was the first of a reported trilogy. I am kind of looking forward to hearing the next book in the series. Characters where "OK" but the new mythology was very interesting.
When the second book in this series came out it received incredible reviews and they kept mentioning this book. Believe it or not, I had not heard of it. The 2nd book sounded good so I bought this one to see what was up. WOW! I am so glad I did! This book is incredible. Right up there with the "Song of Ice and Fire" Series. Unfortunately, like the "Game of Thrones" series, these books are so detailed it takes the author about 4 or 5 years to write one. This is, absolutely, an essential series if one enjoys Sci-Fi/fantasy books.
