"Surprisingly Engaging"
I was almost always engaged in the story. the narration is wonderful. The hero defines what is best about human beings. Some of the technical details about the hard-boiled detective fights were over the top, but all in all this is a fun listen.
"Engrossing Listen"
I don't usually listen to books with more than two parts as I am a fast reader and usually find them too long, but this one had me more and more engrossed the entire 20 hours. [I even got my picture taken in a speeding trap I always avoid.] Multiple narrators made it more interesting. My only quibbles would be that the courtroom scenes weren't entirely accurate, and no green attorney in his right mind would let his first criminal trial be a first degree murder one without very good malpractice insurance. Also, neither Emma nor Rich asked the obvious question Jacobs first statement called for. BTW I don't understand the reviews that say you don't know whether he did it or not. The ending is clear.
"Whole Series Is Excellent & This May Be Best"
No. I have yet to listen to a book again and don't read them again since childhood.
All her characters are flawed even though you identify with them.
Yes but too long for this to be realistic.
This can be listened to without listening to the rest of the series.
"I am engrossed"
Most books that are three parts long I find too slow and wish I'd read them abridged or not at all, but not this one. When I arrive at my destination, I want to stay in the car and keep listening. Life may be too short to relisten to books, but I might want ti relisten to this one.
I kept wanting to listen to more to see how it would turn out when I should have been getting out of my car and keeping an appointment or cooking dinner,
His depiction of the various characters is exquisite
It made me cringe and brought back memories of Civil Rights Marches and arrogant mistreatment of blacks.
Most books that are three parts long I find too slow and wish I'd read them abridged or not at all, but not this one. When I arrive at my destination, I want to stay in the car and keep listening.. For me that occurs only 2 or 3 % of the time with audiobooks. I recommend it highly, It inter weaves our country's recent history with interesting fictional characters.. The narrator is very skillful at depicting varied group of characters and expressing their emotion. I highly recommend this book even though I have almost two hours left. I will be sad when it's over.
"Hackeneyed"
Light read, predictable, maybe just not my type. It isn't very well written, but it is an easy listen.
Chiefs
She's good at it.
Not buy any more books in this series.
"Boring If Not Your Genre"
I made the mistake of buying because of thereviews. The performance is excellent, but the story is trite and poorly written. I am almost through the first half and about to quit. I would be bored even if it were abridged. I also bought House at Riverton because of the reviews, and that was definitely worth it. This one is a waste of time.
"Nowhere Near As Good as Those Preceeding"
I don't think story was as well written as the previous ones. The characters don't behave the way one would expect, especially Wallender. No way would he be that stupid. The narration was fine once I got used to having a different narrator, but there were too many plot devices to make the danger Linda found herself in.
"Read It; Don't Listen"
I love Nelson DeMille, but I am 1 1/2 hours into listening, and I have stopped. The villain is such a characture, and as a reader I would be skimming through this stuff. The narrator is way over the top. Do yourself a favor and read this one rather than listen.
"Read it. Good Story, Boring Listen"
I am 2/3 of the way through, and it so slow. So many of the details are unnecessary and repititious. If I read it, I would skim quickly past those parts, but you can't when you listen. Either listen to an abridged version or read this book. Warning: it will take forever if you listen! This is about the 80th book I have listened to and this is only the second time I wished it were abridged. The story is worthwhile, just not in this format.
"Best of 28 I've Listened To"
Great Narration. Captivating.
