"Excellent book, outstanding narrator"
This audiobook had me laughing, crying, nodding my head and shuddering as the narrator told the story of a mother/daughter relationship and the stories behind it. It made me realize that we all have a story--that few people know. We all deserve to be loved for who we are, not who others think we should be. I will be more open and loving to the women in my family, as well as in my little world. I loved this book and will listen to it again when I've had time to live a bit first. Then I'll come back to the Ya-ya's for their wisdom! Judith Ivey does an amazing job giving each character their own voice and they are each exactly what I would have heard in my head if I had been reading it myself.
LOVED IT!
"Not what I expected..."
JK has proven her ability to write beyond Harry Potter--but this book was tough to keep reading because of its difficult and dark story. I suppose we need to know that there are people like Crystal Weedon and her family, but why couldn't there have been at least one mostly good character (besides a dead guy)?!
I did finish the book, and even though it is thoroughly depressing, I was satisfied and felt closure at the end. I am now searching for something light and humorous to follow this up with, though!!
"Disappointing"
I appreciate Jodi's ability to tackle tough issues and weave them into a story, but this one falls desperately short of a narrative and ends up only a commentary on gay marriage. I was disappointed not in the subject matter, but in the lack of plot and story. I finally gave up 2/3rds of the way through it. I hung in waiting for a twist that would interest me, but it is just too predictable.
"Interesting story, not great accents by reader"
The story is interesting, unlike any story I've read before. I can't quite figure out the purpose of the story. I liked the Irish accent by the narrator, but the South American accent is terrible! Reminds me of a Transylvanian vampire! Oh well.
"Good story"
The story started out very slow...and confusing with so many names and little character expansion. It did finally get good and was a good read (but not a great read). The narrator did a good job differentiating the characters.
"Poor narrator"
The book is a good follow up to Lonesome Dove...prequel....but the narrator was a big disappointment. Very poor western accent and hard to distinguish between characters.
"Excellent!"
What a fun read! The narrator was excellent...I really enjoyed this book!
