As a lover of the Sherlock Holmes stories, I really enjoyed the unique approach offered in having Holmes solve these Sci-fi mysteries . The stories are well written and the editor (John Joseph Adams) does a fantastic job of maintaining the continuity of the narrating form used of Watson throughout the book.
Simon Vance is a great narrator and he does a particularly good job in his portrayal of all the English characters in this book, but especially Holmes and Watson. Very Entertaining in deed,.
I really enjoyed this book. Venneman did a good job of capturing the Victorian era and he included the personality traits and formal language that one familiar with Doyle's writing's expects in a Sherlock Holmes novel. Simon Vance is the perfect talent to narrate the book.
Filter out all the "F" words and you'll cut the book by a third. The book reads like it was written by a male teen with a very limited vocabulary. Furthermore, there are aspects to the book that I felt were sacrilegious, such as using the term Jesus Land and resiting passages of scripture out of context. I have to admit, I didn't make it to the half way point, before abandoning the book.
