This is one of the defining novels of English writer Julian Barnes. An entertaining melange of stories starting with a contemporary account of the launch of Noah's Ark takes us into unexpected areas of human foibles, activities, and tendencies.

On September 19, 1356, a heavily outnumbered English army faced off against the French in the historic Battle of Poitiers. In 1356, Cornwell resurrects this dramatic and bloody struggle - one that would turn out to be the most decisive and improbable victory of the Hundred Years' War, a clash where the underdog English not only the captured the strategic site of Poitiers, but the French King John II as well.

    Do not know

What does Jack Hawkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Additional definition to the characters.

No. It was very entertaining. The detail held my attention. It seemed to be well researched.

    Any additional comments?

Splendid story. I enjoyed Argincourt a few years ago. It was not a series so finding this was a treat.
