  • Pushing the Limits

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Katie McGarry
    • Narrated By MacLeod Andrews, Tara Sands
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible....

    Brooke says: "The Tough Stuff."
What made the experience of listening to Pushing the Limits the most enjoyable?

It felt less like an audiobook and more like sitting across the table from my friends as they told me about their day.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that both characters were flawed, that even though they started out with nefarious intent, and went about gaining their own ends in the wrong way, they ended up accepting that their nemesis wasn't their enemy and working through their issues on their own.

What does MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tara does an absolutely brilliant job with Echo's sarcasm, and MacLeod's reading of one scene in particular made me have to pull off into a parking lot because I was crying too hard to see the road in front of me.

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend both the book and the audio version.

  • Infamous: Chronicles of Nick

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By Sherrilyn Kenyon
    • Narrated By Holter Graham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That’s the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn’t the average teenager. He’s a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him. He’s learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive and keep a girlfriend so dang hard?

Janet says: "YA Novel interesting enough for all Adults"
"I could listen to Holter Graham read the phone boo"
Where does Infamous rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I can't possibly name a favorite - but it's one of the best.

What other book might you compare Infamous to and why?

    Infinity, Invincible...same character =)

Which character – as performed by Holter Graham – was your favorite?

All of them. He's got beautifully distinct voices for them and I love it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

That one moment between the beginning and the end.

  • Night Pleasures: A Dark-Hunter Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Sherrilyn Kenyon
    • Narrated By Carrington MacDuffie
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In Night Pleasures, Kyrian of Thrace - an immortal who protects humans from vampires - wakes up one morning handcuffed to the one thing that can scare him: a conservative woman in a button-down shirt. But Amanda Devereaux turns out to be his perfect partner for hunting down a deadly foe, and for helping him to regain his soul and learn that love doesn't have to bite.

    Erich says: "REALLY!!??"
    "Couldn't finish it"
Would you consider the audio edition of Night Pleasures to be better than the print version?

Not even a little. Night Pleasures is one of my favorites in the DH series...and I couldn't finish the audio version of it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hmm. In this one Kyrian is my favorite, but only because Nick isn't in it as much as I'd like.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Carrington MacDuffie?

Unfortunately, just about anyone else. The accents were too jarring (too sacharine southern for Amanda and Tabitha, I couldn't figure out Kyrian's, and Talon's was If I had my greatest wish fulfilled? It would be this one, and Night Embrace to be re-recorded by Holter Graham.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nope. I couldn't even finish it in several sittings.

  • On the Island

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Tracey Garvis Graves
    • Narrated By Heidi Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When 30-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts. T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter.

    Kim says: "Loved this book!"
    "Not bad...but not great."
What did you love best about On the Island?

The story. It's a beautiful story of survival - both on the island and off - and of the lengths people will go to for the ones they love, even it if that means letting go.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Impossible. I love Anna and TJ equally.

What three words best describe Heidi Baker’s performance?

I only need two: Too fast.

If you could take any character from On the Island out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I'd take 'em both out...just to be super creepy and watch them being happy together.

    Any additional comments?

Heidi did an all right job with the reading, but she needed to seriously slow down. There was little to no pause between description and dialogue and I started getting the feeling I was late for something because she was rushing through telling me the story. It was also really difficult deciphering if we were in TJ's voice or Anna's. I think the audiobook would have benefited from dual readers - one for TJ and one for Anna.
