This is the first time I have bothered to write a review...so bear with me. This topic is fascinating and left me feeling nauseous, frightened and completely amazed by what people will buy into! Everyone should read this book if they are at all interested in looking into how small interest groups with big money can influence the judicial system, local, federal and international governments. I disagree with other reviewers that the subject matter is dull - not at all - it is fascinating (granted I also like to listen to NPR) it is the narrator that is doing this book a HUGE disservice. HE IS BORING. Also - why is it read by a man when it was written by a woman and she occasionally writes in the first person? just wondering. If you don't mind slogging through the boring narration I say give it a go - otherwise read the book - BUT avoid looking up photos of those involved in wrongful death lawsuit on internet - some of them are very macabre.
I am a fan of the author - and this is a huge departure from her other books. I had no problem with the narration (some disliked her accent). I found the pronunciation for some words to be strange (which can be jarring) and she does talk too fast at times, but it did not distract too much from the great story. I cannot wait for the next book! If you enjoy urban fantasy (Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, etc) then you will enjoy this one:)
The narration and sound are awful!!! I cannot overstate this. It sounds like he recorded it in his bedroom. I kept waiting to hear trash trucks go by and the neighbors dog barking. It is that bad. And the narration itself is bad. The delivery is repetitive. Every sentence has the same delivery. I would stop, move on to another book, then return to it - but could never last more then 15 minutes. I gave up after the second hour. Maybe the story is good - I'll never know. I wish I could return it- but Audible only allows two returns per year.
