This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

"Vivid Imagary, But Dry on Plot and Thrill"
    Overall

The writer creates a vivid world that you feel you could walk and live in. He also is a great story teller; the only problem is that the story he is telling is boring. I listened to the end because the way the story is told is so delightful and I was so hopeful that at some point the story would take off. But every plot twist is predictable and NOTHING ever really happens. The story even managed to make two massacres boring...now tell me how do you do that?

A dazzling blend of military history, high-flying fantasy, and edge-of-your-seat adventure, Naomi Novik’s Temeraire novels, set in an alternate Napoleonic era in which intelligent dragons have been harnessed as weapons of war, are more than just perennial bestsellers—they are a worldwide phenomenon. Now, in Tongues of Serpents, Naomi Novik is back, along with the dragon Temeraire and his rider and friend, Capt. Will Laurence.

This book was so lack luster; I went to write this review and couldn't remember anything about the story. The plot for the book stayed so dead on the series' plot recipe that this book blurred into the oblivion of the old story lines. I was VERY disappointed, I love Lawrence and Temeraire...I was planing to name my next kitten Temeraire until I read this ;)

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

    "Take Caution"
    Overall

Take caution, this book is addicting and the author hasn't finished the series. So you will devour book after book to not have the epic completed...But even saying that the ride is so amazing who cares if you don't get the "big o" at the end.

P.S. This IS an epic novel made up of a large cast so the first book in the series is going to be world building and character introduction. If you don't like epic fantasy (very very long stories that take several books to complete) this book is not for you. If you like blood, brotherhood, magic, sex, and war you will enjoy every minute!

It is a grim time for the dragon Temeraire. On the heels of his mission to Africa, seeking the cure for a deadly contagion, he has been removed from military service - and his captain, Will Laurence, has been condemned to death for treason. For Britain, conditions are grimmer still: Napoleon's resurgent forces have breached the Channel and successfully invaded English soil.

    Overall

I love Temeraie and am addicted to the characters that Simon Vance and Noami Novik bring to life. I wish I could fly and fight with them! Every Temeraie book I read is like going home to your family after being away for college. It???s really great when you get home and see all those you love and have missed but really quickly it gets redundant. I hope the feeling of adventure, intrigue and the nail biting uncertainty comes back with the next book...and maybe a less predictable end that sways from the formula of the first novels.

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

    "Mid-Passage Review"
    Overall

I'm listening to the book now. I was so in love with the book for the first third, and have just started the second third. Jumping decades into the future with none of the characters it took you hours of listening to get to know is frustrating. Only the fact that I've listened to the whole first third is pushing me to listen to the rest. I hope it gets better because I have a lot more to go. Right now I feel like I have started a whole new book and am upset about the non-conclusion of the first...OMG!
