It seems some people were offended by the message of this program. Probably because the book exposes how a good story can make you really believe and commit to something whether the story is true or not. The book says that once we decide to believe a story that our brains will do anything to continue to believe it. The book goes on with examples of how and why stories have worked and spread. I have a feeling that the low scoring people were somehow offended due to their own personal beliefs that Seth must have commented on. I only give it a four because its not a complete marketing program. The message is excellent and very revealing.
Wow this book brings some really cool insights. The reader is required to put their moral view of how the world is supposed to be aside. This book is specifically anti-hippy while revealing the workings of productivity and how technology is making us more productive by removing people from the work equation.
That's the book in a nutshell. Great book. Dang it's long though.... 4 stars.
This book is filled with great information if you are a corporate exec of a large company. Then again, if you're a corporate exec you probably already know this stuff. Has a lot to do with team building and succession planning.
I struggled to find a way it would apply to me and my small businesses now, but the vast majority refers to companies like GE and there is only one GE. I don't have 300 VPs and I don't need to do succession planning 30 yrs into the future.... My business is simply not that big so a lot of this was just not relevant.
Some good skills and tips are in this book... but it is mostly dedicated to the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies with great ambitions. The rest of us might want to look elsewhere unless you just have some time to kill.
This book is strictly for amateurs. If you know anything about facebook just don't get this audio book. The author actually goes into step by step instructions for how to delete friends (as if that's worth your time). If you know nothing about the internet then this will help. If you know anything about the internet then look for something more advanced.
This book is for grandma.
It's not that the author doesn't have a good point, he does; it's just that you don't need 6 or 8 hours to prove it. They say the same thing over and over again I have an hour left to listen to, which I will; painfully.
The basic idea of the book is that you can no longer take advantage of consumers because they are paying attention and know whats up. they encourage no more cookie cutter business models. So instead of acting like a big company, that just pushes people to the cash register, act like a smaller company with a real purpose. Show the customer that you stand strongly for something relevant to them and they will become a part of your group, and buy from you.
Basically provide real, valuable service that fits your customer, and don't screw them.
That's it. They then go on to list 500 examples of why this is true. You will understand the whole book in 1 hour. The rest is just a repeat.
Again, they do have a good point and examples to back it up. If they decided to not waste my time (as they suggest in the book) then they would get a higher rating from me. Other business audio books use their time wiser and are a better listen. This one gets repetitive quickly.
They must have Cliff Notes on this one!
Very good advice put forth in a simple and clear manner. I have more faith in Donald Trump programs because of the quality of this one. Tells you the most important things to support a brand.
very inspirational, and if you can remember all the things it tells you to do you will make more sales. Somewhat entertaining.
The main point is about how we fool ourselves with our visions of the future. How this vision leads us to do many things. And then how are visions arent fullfilled in the future and how we end up unsatisfied. Very cool and entertaining audiobook. Does have a lot to do with the human perspective.
this is a long rant about how to do business in the new world according to the author. It does have some valuable insights, but not that great. This doesn't repect your time that much either. It's more like a way for the author to let off steam. There is some info, widely spread out, with a bunch of garbage in between. A lot would have sounded good 5 years ago, but it's almost outdated now. Get something more organized to educate you.
I haven't found anything that can teach you how to build that real cult-like customer following like this. It is very clear too. Very understandable, and like I said, I've never seen something like this else where.
The author gives the exact equation for a brand to become a part of peoples lifestyles in a unique and well researched manner. Once you hear it you will feel like you have an edge on everyone else. That if youre into marketing of course.
maybe a little better than ok, but not all that. Somewhat inspirational, some very good points. It does have content scattered throughout. Better for you than listening to the radio. Not as clear cut as Seth Godins other books, but still informational.
