The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning, along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires, and he enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for 10 years, and never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs, nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames. He never questioned anything, until he met a 17-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid, and a professor who told him of a future in which people could think. Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do.

    Story
What made the experience of listening to Fahrenheit 451 the most enjoyable?

The story is an oldie but a goodie. I read the book years ago and was interested how it would sound being read to me.

What did you like best about this story?

The realization that things COULD be as this story if we aren't careful. It is racial with out the color.

What about Christopher Hurt’s performance did you like?

His voice was soft enough that you had to listen carefully but his enunciation was clear enough that is wasn't hard to understand him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I wanted to listen and then think about what was going on in the story.

    Any additional comments?

At the end where they are walking down the railroad tracks. I like to think if this were a true story I would fit in. The fact that they had the storys "in their heads" instead of having to carry and protect the books themselves is an amazing concept. I'm sure every reader has parts of their favorite books that are commited to memory.

Florida Gothic Stories contains 11 of Vicki Hendricks’ best, some previously published and some new to this volume. Hendricks’ stories are riveting and unsettling - some offer surreal sojourns into the dark side of magical realism while others are pure Florida noir, with a full menu of characters twisted and damaged, yet with a gritty determination to survive.

I was born in Florida 70 years ago. I'm not a prude, I'd listen to the storys again but not with the narraters nasel incorrect accent. You'll find the same storys in any state so it that isn't what appals me, it's that horrible accent with the adnoidal, 'I have alleries', voice.
