"It surprised me"
I would not have had the patience to read this book with my eyes. I used it as a companion for pulling weeds and I must report that the garden and I are both the better for it. It was a very good listen. I'll not forget these characters anytime soon.
"Good, but . . ."
I like the story idea just fine and I always enjoy alternating timelines and how they weave together, but there was not enough 'something' here to make me passionate or even care very much about the characters.
"Had to listen at 1.5 speed to get it over with"
I hear that some books ask you to "suspend belief" and just enjoy the story. Suspending belief will not help this.
"Repetitive"
Well, of course, this is a wonderful story about Snowman the eighty dollar champion horse and his amazing owner/partner Harry de Leyer. Great story--but not well told. The book was terribly repetitive--so much so--that I finally gave up listening. I do thank the author for introducing me to Snowman and Harry.
"Still thinking about this book"
A book I am still thinking about a week after finishing--is certainly worth 5-stars in my rating system. This book has a brainy plot that slowly and methodically reveals the depth of "devotion."
"Outstanding read with Depth and Humor"
For a long time I judged this book unfairly by it's peculiar title. Oh, I am so glad I finally sidestepped the title and just jumped in for a listen. As the quirky characters are peeled back and the story unfolds, I am reminded that people are just people--and I would want these for my friends too.
"Narrator in character."
Mr. Brick nailed the character Shep's voice. This was a suspenseful novel, yet I found myself with a tiny grin every time Shep spoke--because he was just so well done.
