The characterization in this second book is as entertaining as in the first book. However, the lengthy exploration of Louis's French court slowed down the action without adding much to the plot. The first and last 30 minutes of the book seem disjointed, and more time could have been spent on developing Claire's relationship with her daughter, Brianna. Kept reading purely for Davina Porter's brilliant narration.
This was really an excellant book.I'm spoiled for good now. The action left you breathless with wondering what could possibly happen next. Outrageous events were so flawlessly right for each character, and a lot of the questions that were brought up in the first 3 books was finally resolved. I can't wait to see what whill happen to Briana, Roger, and Ian in the next installments.
