David Brin's The Postman is the dramatically moving saga of a man who rekindled the spirit of America through the power of a dream, from a modern master of science fiction. He was a survivor - a wanderer who traded tales for food and shelter in the dark and savage aftermath of a devastating war. Fate touches him one chill winter's day when he borrows the jacket of a long-dead postal worker to protect himself from the cold. The old, worn uniform still has power as a symbol of hope, and with it he begins to weave his greatest tale.

One of the top 10% of audio books.

What did you like best about this story?

    A truly interesting story.

Which character ??? as performed by David LeDoux ??? was your favorite?

    The Postman, of course.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really. One needs to stop and think about some of the concepts in this book. It is not mere entertainment.

    Any additional comments?

Great listen! Of course it was much better than the movie. Causes you to think as well as entertains you.

If you could sum up Swan Song in three words, what would they be?

Apocalyptic adventure with a touch of magic. Great story that really pulls you in but I was a little disappointed by the "magic" elements. Still a great listen.

What about Tom Stechschulte’s performance did you like?

Reader did a good job of changing voices and accents. Made it very realistic without overdoing it.

  • Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden - from 9-11 to Abbottabad

From the author of the New York Times best-selling Holy War, Inc., this is the definitive account of the decade-long manhunt for the world’s most wanted man, Osama bin Laden. Al Qaeda expert and CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen paints a multidimensional picture of the hunt for bin Laden over the past decade, including the operation that killed him.

What made the experience of listening to Manhunt the most enjoyable?

    Some good inside information.

What???s the most interesting tidbit you???ve picked up from this book?

Did not realize that Bin Laden was living a mile or so from a military school at which American troops taught Pakistani troops.

    Any additional comments?

I still want to know who turned the electricity off in that portion of Abbottabad. How did that happen? How much did we know about Pakistani treachery?

  • The Mental Floss History of the World: An Irreverent Romp Through Civilization's Best Bits

About 60,000 years ago, the first Homo sapiens were just beginning their move across the grasslands and up the ladder of civilization. Everything since then, as they say, is history. Just in case you were sleeping in class that day, the geniuses at mental_floss magazine have put together a hilarious (and historically accurate) primer on everything you need to know---and that means the good stuff.

This is not a book to be used for the scholarly study of history, but it is a great book for making you think about history and want to know more. I have listened to it twice, a little bit at a time and still enjoy it.
