Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

A fun and amusing read. I chuckled...several times.

Pi Patel has been raised in a zoo in India. When his father decides to move the family to Canada and sell the animals to American zoos, everyone boards a Japanese cargo ship. The ship sinks, and 16-year-old Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra with a broken leg, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

Theresa says: "Best audio of the year for me"

Life of Pi is a great book, from the story to the way the book is written. Life of Pi is written in three parts, India, the Pacific, and Rescue. Part one is a fun and entertaining read that introduces us to Pi and sets the philisophical tone and backdrop for the novel. Part two is the majority of Pi's experience floating on the Pacific Ocean. This section drew on and on, probably in an attempt to make the reader feel the drudgery Pi was feeling. Finally, Pi is rescued and the novel ends by creating a great tension within the story and leaves you with many thoughts and questions. I highly recommend this book.

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Corby says: "Very informative, fun to listen to"

Great book that gives a short history of nearly everything (obviously). If you're interested in how we know what we know, this is the book for you. Highly recommended.
