Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"

What made the experience of listening to Unbroken the most enjoyable?

Good character development and enjoyed the hisotical data. It helped me realize the inhumanity that man can do to one another. It also helped me understand when I was a child, and relatives/family friends that had been prisoners of war acted the way they did- such as refusing to eat oriental food (especially rice). I never understood how a person could refuse to eat something as simple as rice, or how people developed such sterotypes and disgust for another human or ethnicity

What did you like best about this story?

I think I liked best the ability to understand how peoples character is formed by their past experiences.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I was amazed with how long and the ability of the characters to stay alive in such adversity. I did find it hard to believe that the only one in the raft that was able to solve any problems was the great Zamparini. I wondered how realistic that was- It seemed somewhat skewed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

too long but did hold my interest. I listened on a trip with my 19 year old son and he was unable to stop listening. It was comical how if any type of disturbance occured during our listen, we had to reverse and listen to the area again.

    Any additional comments?

Well worth the time and money. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and as I said before if you can enjoy a book and learn as well, it is time well spent.
