Yes. This is just a great story. It was written well, funny at times with a feel good ending.
I am not one to compare books. Each one seems very unique to me. Even if its the whole swords wizards and princess plot.
Tim Reynolds has a very unique way of doing female voices. I do not think I could have done them better in my head. I mention the female voices because, I read about other reviewers complaining about other narrators and there version of female voices. So I am giving Tim his due. Over all I will be looking out for other books that Tim Narrates.
I guess I was sad to see that the Trilogy ended. When you have a good book you really never want it to end. I do have to say the ended was fantastic. (all bases covered)
This Series is worth your time and money. Do not skip this one.
The ending was superb, made me want to get the second book. It has a slow paced implantation of fantasy and action. I see why people compared it to some other popular epic fantasy books. So if you looking for a book that is not extreme Fantasy this is it. I cant not vouch for the next books however.
Marcus at first but Gedar kind of stole the show in the end. Marcus: a tough old ex captain turned mercenary: whats not to like about that. He seems to drive the story at first and keeps you interested.
Then Gedar comes in and you start to listen to castle politics. Then I start to thinking NOOOO not another one of these. But he comes out kind of a grey hero in the end that's fun to listen too.
I liked the narrator, however I think that there are too many characters for his style of reading. The voice changes in the main characters were, well not really there. I kept getting confused and would have to listen harder to figure out the characters I was with in the story. Sorry but I kind of love different voices. In his defense the guy has a awesome voice.
I really liked the end. It was fun. I liked it when the sudo vengeful geder won his day.
Its worth the read. But remember this has been labeled epic fantasy so be prepared.
I loved the magic system. It was simple and fun. I would say this book was almost a light read but not quite there. Other reviewers said the book was slow, I did not see that at all. The story developed at just the right pace if you ask me.
I cant think of one. Not too many books I read have a female protagonist.
No I have never listened to her before. But I would again.
To be honest I really have a hard time listening to Female Narrators. Elisabeth did a awesome job. I went right into the story like you should after a books gets going.
Never. Driving, house/yard work and when I play madden are my listening times.
I thought this book was fun. I dont know if I will get the second book however. I have a big bucket list of books.
Any time I listen to a book I find them better. And I look like a drunk driver when I read and drive at the same time.
The Dresdon Files. Urban Fantasy placed in England. A exorcist with some interesting powers. His powers and methods were very interesting. Has a office in the shady part of town and he is broke. Has some strange friends also. Has a zombie supper computer guy. Kind of like bob.
Sound like anybody we know?
Main Characters voice was Mat Coffins voice in Robert Jordan's Wheel of time Series. And that was pretty cool. Dont worry you forget whos voice it is real fast after the story gets going. Like most books Kramer does I dont care for him at the beginning of the book and end up loving him by the end.
#sound (ghostbusters theme soung) and instead of Ghost busters it would say "Ghostdetective"
I am not going to power through this series like I did Dresdon. I am going to save each book for when I get the itch for a first person urban fantasy.
If you really like Dwarves sure. I think there are other fantasy books out that I could spend 22 hours on. I love long books, my library has some of the longest ones here on audible.
No. I would say pass. The book felt like it needed a big time edit. The way he raised the stakes so often felt ridiculous. I like the stakes raised, but too much is too much. I did get the feeling I was on a adventure with a bunch of Dwarves. But if you need that I would have some other recommendations for you.
Also Character relationships all felt weird to me. It felt that a bunch of people that hated each other were thrown into the situation. With the main character soothing all the situations. And you had to hear about it the whole time.
He had some really good Dwarve voices and acted them out well. Well spoken. Still I only give my favorite Narrators 5 stars.
No. To be honest I almost gave up on the book. Getting to the ending was hard for me.
I really wanted to love this book. Hey I like Dwarves as much as the next guy. I doubt I will get book 2.
No. To much space and navel battle. I can go for a good battle. I just shorten them up or space them apart more.
Nimue of course. Main android/humanish guy. If David would have drove for a more character driving book vs a space/naval battle book I think this book would have been epic. His character development is great, there was just not enough of it.
I dont remember the navel battles were so long I forgot.
If you like ships go for it. space and navel.
Four Stars OUT of Five. "Dam I am a good reviewer."
This story had a different feel about it. I still got that o this is fantastical but it had something more I could not really play my finger on. The magic system is very interesting. I am not sure I really understood the whole magic system. It was explain in happen change conversions during the entirety of the book.
Reading some of the reviews some people didn't like Matthews performance. I thought he did fine. He is not a five star but at least a 4. I would have to say the captains voice was my favorite.
No the start is slow. Just going to warn you. THE START IS SLOW. Stick with it and it will get better.
I say if you got all your great epic fantasy done with and are craving some. This is the book for you. After all the greats are done you have practically start doing research on what book is next for you.
I would add more good things into the book (more hope). It felt like every thing was bad for 22 hours. I even stopped listen for a bit, fearing I needed to take a antidepressant. (jk)
The end was very predictable. Not complaining at all, because its what you want to happen.
He was pretty good. I did hear some inconsistency of voice in one of the characters. But it was fine practically unnoticed.
Yea, Next book...."Epic fantasy."
I have 6 reviewers I follow. Each one has a certain task. 3 of them reviewed this book. My zombie/apocalyptic lady reviewer loved this book. The guy who gives 5 stars to everything then writes how he doesn't like it all that much. (he reads lots of fantasy) And my must trusted literary reviewer who I pretty much agreed with. (he gave the book 2 stars. I say 3 is a fair review.)
Yes I would have it re-edited. Take out the redundancy of some of the parts of the book that took away from the story. All in all its not a bad story, Just needed some of the fluff taken out.
Georgia. The narrator was pretty good no issues with her at all.
No. I watch a president get elected/re-elected every 4 years. And I do argue the point, there are zombies in our election process too.
I would pass on this zombie wannabe.
Its hard to rank this one because its kind of different then my normal epic fantasy. If your looking for something different and your out of the Dresden files this is a good pic. I will be listening to book 2. And lately that has been rare.
This book its very unique for me. It was kind of like a cross of the matrix and a fantasy book. Do not let that turn you away from this book. The story was well written and the performance alone from Stefan Rudnicki was enough to give this book your time. The only weakness i felt was that I never really loved or felt attached to any of the characters. (Its a series I will give it time.)
All of them. This guy is now up there in my top narrators. I hope to see/hear him do many more books. Maybe some Epic Fantasy's???
Wonderment and curiosity of how this book developed.
Grown UP YA.
Dammit .... circle of time. Robert Jorden. Its a good start.
no complaints here.
Its a good basic story with lots of potential.
