This is easily the best of the Dresden series thus far. The book is aptly named and aptly written along those lines. The character development is phenomenal and many questions are answered. Those who are saying this is a Finale? Nope. I ain't buying that one. I highly recommend this to Dresden fans but STRONGLY DISCOURAGE this being your FIRST book to introduce Dresden.

I am so pleased that Audible now has the complete series now and I recommend you start at the beginning and have the sweet experience of going through all twelve books.

James Marsters does his very best in this audiobook. It's almost more of a dramatized version than an unabridged audiobook! Thanks, James for such an excellent performance.

Okay, it isn't James Marsters. Believe me, I am was as disappointed as you that he was unable to do it. Having said that, lets get on with our lives and realize John Glover is an excellent choice for narrator. Have you heard some of the voices on audible? John has a fascinating voice that, quite honestly, probably sounds more like the real Harry Dresden because his voice wouldn't be as melodic as we'd like to believe. Harry's had a hard life and done hard things. His voice would reflect that.

While I mourn the loss of Marsters, I will still get the audiobook and still enjoy it. It's Butcher and Harry I enjoy...not just who reads it! So, as Harry might say and the Eagles did: "Build a bridge and get over it, People!"

I've always been a Chandler fan and was pleasantly surprised to see Elliot Gould narrating these books. I got this one to try it out and am so pleased.

Mr. Gould not only gets the cynical swagger in his voice for Marlowe but does well at all the other parts and emotions. I highly recommend it for any hard-boiled PI fan out there.

This novel is a turning point in the series. It is the second book in the Dresden Files and paves a strong foundation for turning a fairly light fantasy series into a substantial series with characters that live and breath. Murphy and Dresden begin to define the kind of friendship that will blossom into something very special.

Harry becomes something a bit more than just a brooding wizard as he begins to realize his responsibilities not just to trying to make a living but to his friends and his community of wizards.

James Marsten continues his excellent talent of reading these books and I disagree with a previous review that his delivery was shaky. His performance was stronger than the first book, Storm Front, and it continues to get better through the rest of the series.

I hope Audible gets all of the series. You should, too!

If you love PI stories and have a hankering for the occult then Harry is your man, or rather, wizard. Butcher's use of sarcastic wit and bouts of unabashed sentimentality blend together for a witch's brew of pure delight. If Marlowe or Robert Parker had decided to write a Private Eye novel using wizards, the fey, vampires, and such then I don't think they could have done any better than Jim Butcher. I am so happy Audible is beginning to carry the rest of this series. Try it! You'll be hooked!!
