You know it's going to be a rough summer when you spend Father's Day visiting your dad in the local lockup.Noah's dad is sure that the owner of the Coral Queen casino boat is flushing raw sewage into the harbor, which has made taking a dip at the local beach like swimming in a toilet. He can't prove it though, and so he decides that sinking the boat will make an effective statement. Right. The boat is pumped out and back in business within days and Noah's dad is stuck in the clink.

I can't imagine that this was written by the same person who wrote Skinny Dip & Tourist Season unless he wrote it when he was 12 years old.

An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.

Suzn F says: "I confess, I loved it!"
    "Not up to previous standards"
    Overall

L-O-N-G, often boring handling of an innocent man on death row. No suspense, no surprises, just characters v. the death penalty & its consequences.

In this epic thriller by popular British journalist and author Tom Knox, a secret lurks beneath blazing sands - triggering ritualistic slaughter and threatening the foundations of modern thought. When an archaeological dig in Kurdistan unearths a structure far older than Stonehenge or the Great Pyramids, British reporter Rob Lutrell rushes to the scene. But this intriguing assignment takes a turn for the worse when sabotage and murder cast a frightening shadow over the site.

    Angel says: "The Genetics Secret"
"From interesting story to very gory"
    Overall

The first half of the novel builds an interesting archaeological mystery but then detours to a bloody mess in every detail, not for the squimish!
It did get me to research Gobeckly-Tepe & Catal Huyuk.

As a child, former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone was told his father died in a submarine disaster in the North Atlantic. But now he wants the full story. He asks his ex-boss, Stephanie Nelle, to secure the military files. What he learns stuns him: His father's sub was a secret nuclear vessel lost on a highly classified mission beneath the ice shelves of Antarctica. But Malone isn't the only one after the truth.

Matthew says: "Another classic Steve Berry complexity"
    "Steve Berry's Worst!"
    Overall

    Waaaay toooooo looong!
Time to retire Cotton Mallone if this is what you get. Bad story line & the author's jumping around from scene to scene right in the middle is sometimes confusing & certainly annoying. Just because the author's recent honeymoon took him to some of these places he didn't have to force a story out of it.
Not much to do with Charlemagne, just a sidebar!

"I moved to New York City a month ago to become the best journalist the world had ever seen. To find the greatest stories never told. And now here I am, Henry Parker, 24 years old and weary beyond rational thought, a bullet one trigger-pull from ending my life."

    Malle says: "Great audiobook!"
    "Mark this one a "no-no""
    Overall

Bad plot, cliched conversations, totally unbelievable. Even some basic facts are wrong!

Gage finds himself hurled into the Holy Land in dogged pursuit of an ancient Egyptian scroll imbued with magic, even as Bonaparte launches his 1799 invasion of Israel, which will climax at the epic siege of Acre. Pursuing Napoleon to France, where the general hopes ancient secrets will catapult him to power, the wily and inventive Gage faces old enemies with unlikely new friends.

    "continuation"
    Overall

Don't listen to this unless you've READ the first book NAPOLEAN'S PYRAMIDS (unavailable in Audible)because this is a continuation of that book. It is a good adventure and does give some details of what happened previously but first things first! The other problem I had is that the reader doesn't sound anything like the character.

In a crowded courtroom in Mississippi, a jury returns a shocking verdict against a chemical company accused of dumping toxic waste into a small town's water supply, causing the worst "cancer cluster" in history. The company appeals to the Mississippi Supreme Court, whose nine justices will one day either approve the verdict or reverse it.

In six minutes, one of us would be dead. None of us knew it was coming. So says Wes Holloway, a once-cocky and ambitious presidential aide, about the day that changed his life forever. On that Fourth of July, Wes put Ron Boyle, the chief executive's oldest friend, into the presidential limousine. By the time the trip came to an end, Wes was permanently disfigured, and Boyle was dead, the victim of a crazed assassin.

Way too long!(18 hours). Not that exciting & has nothing to do with Free Masons. THe main character is pathetic, evoking little if any sympathy. The abridged version is probably a little better.

The ancient order of the Knights Templar possessed untold wealth and absolute power over kings and popes until the Inquisition, when they were wiped from the face of the earth, their hidden riches lost. But now two forces vying for the treasure have learned that it is not at all what they thought it was, and its true nature could change the modern world.

More action, well read. The final solution might upset more than The DaVinci Code, but it's only a story and a good one at that!

July 2005. In the Pyrenees mountains near Carcassonne, Alice, a volunteer at an archaeological dig stumbles into a cave and makes a startling discovery: two crumbling skeletons, strange writings on the walls, and the pattern of a labyrinth; between the skeletons, a stone ring, and a small leather bag.

    "Good idea, too long"
    Overall

While the basic idea of the origin of the grail was intriguing, the 2 story lines of different eras took too long to connect. The development of the heros & villins 800 years apart became tedious at times. An abridged version probably would hold more interest.
