"Very Good"
I disagree with prior reviewers, I did not find the readers accent or her reading pace to be difficult to hear. I think she is excellent and added very much to my listening experience.
I have read other Anne Perry novels and I liked this one very much. I enjoy her descriptions of Victorian English society and her development of the characters.
"It's okay to read but don't listen to it....."
The story is ok as entertainment, not great but a nice distraction. I won't go out of my way to track down another Ellie Hatcher novel but I will read one if nothing else is available. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it myself. This reader mispronounces many names. Olathe Kansas, Cartier watch, and Jake Gyllenhaal aren't everyday names but they are common enough that she could have found out the correct pronunciation. The voice she uses for Ellie Hatcher's partner is especially annoying. He's a black dectective from Brooklyn New York and she makes him sound like a white cowboy from Oklahoma. I definitely won't listen to another book with Eliza Foss as the narrator.
"Better Suited for Young Readers."
I really tried to listen to this. The reader does a good job. But I think it is just too "teenage". I don't mean that as a put down. I think I would have liked this book when I was 16 but I'm over 30 and I just couldn't get through it. I'm giving it 3 stars because I think it is a good book for young readers.
"Not Good"
The characters are flat and the event are predictable. The readers are ok but they can't do much with the bad material.
"Dumb Detective"
The main character is supposed to be a skilled veteran police detective but he is just dumb. The story would have been better if this detective had some skills. This is the first book I've read by this author and I won't go out of my way to look for others.
"The reader is boring"
Great story but the reader is boring. I am going to read the rest of this one on my own.
"Overrated but OK"
Huh? That's what I kept asking myself after every scene. History and fiction are woven togeather in an intresting way but there are so many far fetched twists. The reader does well with all the accents and is easy to listen to. It reads like a college lecture in a lot of places so the unabridged version might have been a better choice.
"A+"
This is my first Dave Robicheaux novel and my first read by Will Patton. I loved both and will seek out more! Will Patton does such a good job I will look for more novels that he reads.
"Good book"
If you're a fan of the series you'll like this one too. I especially like reading more about Mma Makutsi.
"I like Cordelia Gray"
This was a little slow in places but I like the main character, Cordelia Gray. I would read more stories with her in them.
"Grabbed me from the first word."
This grabbed my interest from the very first word. The reader is excellent especially with the mean mother-in-law. If you want the traditional wrap up for the bad guy, you may not like the ending. But like many of Ruth Rendell's books it is not the traditional wrap up.
