After the first three books, this was painful to listen to. I really love this story and the book just repeated itself over and over. I can't listen to the last book after reading the reviews, I believe them to be true.
This was fun listen. The concept was unique and the humor made me laugh out loud several times. If you're ready for a vacation book, this would be it.
This is a good book but the narrators voice was so soothing it allowed me to day dream too much about other things. I think it would have been a much better book with a better narrator.
I have to explain my rating, for a YA book its pretty good, but indeed it is a teen/young adult book. It is exactly what the author wanted, to attract a certain segment, which he did by providing a teen theme in a good book. 3.75 stars
I thought the book was generally worth a 4 rating, I couldn't give it a 5 star rating because the author/character was still in the "survival" mode. He kept trying to convince us he was appalled by what he saw and experienced, I have no doubt but it was like he is afraid we will reject him unless he absolutely condemns every aspect of NK life. I can't explain it well, just a under current of fear or "running scared". Overall though I enjoyed the book.
I've listened to at least a dozen Holocaust books and this by far the best so far.
This is a strange tale which requires more than the standard science fiction/end of world reader to enjoy. I wasn't that impressed with it as it was just too much of a liberal arts science fiction novel for me.
I know this will sound crazy to "non zombie lovers" but this is the first zombie book that I could actually believe. I do like end of world novels and they are all good in their own way, but this author has added a twist to the zombie scenario that makes this a "could happen" saga. If you have any interest in end of world and/or zombie novels I would highly recommend this series. I ended up listening to all four novels on audible in a little over a week, I found it very difficult to shut off, that to me is a good indication of a great story line. The only thing I really didn't like.....book 5 is not out there yet. You won't be sorry you tried this book out. Caution - rated R
This is a good book but not for everyone, its a fun book but it does take a great deal of concentration and patience. This is a warning from the past and I only had enough time to write this limited review. Good luck
I think this book was an excellent guide book for what could happen in a pandemic. It was well written, and captured the neighood relationships good and bad. I would recommend this book as a glimpse into what it would be like type of thing. It is not a zombie book, nor is it an end of world book. It's a book that describes the few months the country/community would have to endure in a pandemic situation. Good story, not great but good.
If you imagine you are reading this novel for the first time and are living in the time period, it would scare you and probably stick with you for your entire life i.e. The Exorsist for those living in the mid 70's. If you can imagine the horror they felt, it helps as you listen. However, because this is the 21'st century the story is tame by today's standards and to be honest, there were several places where the story line became cluttered. It's a classic, there is no doubt but a classic that has seen better days. I just couldn't give it much more than a 3 star rating. Good enough to spend a credit but not much more.
