  • The Sociopath Next Door

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Martha Stout
    • Narrated By Shelly Frasier

We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Taryn says: "Reinforces what you have already known"
"Interesting material difficult to listen at"
What did you like best about The Sociopath Next Door? What did you like least?

The book of Martha Stout is a professional presentation, well developed, plenty of examples, clear and interesting. However it was a nightmare to follow the narrator.

How could the performance have been better?

Just be more expressive, it seemed to me as if the narrator wasn't event interested in the book, she sounded awful.

Was The Sociopath Next Door worth the listening time?

Very, very difficult. I have to do an effort. It is really difficult because the subject is not easy nor a pleasant one. One needs to be focused ant the narrator distracts with her monocord voice.

Here, LinkedIn cofounder and chairman Reid Hoffman and author Ben Casnocha show how to accelerate your career in today’s competitive world.

Amazon Customer says: "Just like watching TV... a commerical every 5 mins"
"Old stuff at the beginning but it gets better"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It depends on the friend. I've friends who are not very used to social media and internet marketing. They'll find it very useful but not for me.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Maybe I'll give examples for beginners. I don't think that beginners may benefit if the story is about a big company. In the final third part, it gets better.

  • The Amen Solution: The Brain Healthy Way to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Daniel G. Amen
    • Narrated By Marc Cashman

A breakthrough, easy-to-follow brain-based program to lose weight and keep it off—for the rest of your life! Have you tried diet after diet without success? Want to know the two major secrets why most diets don’t work? The number-one secret is that most weight problems occur between your ears, not in your stomach.

Lori says: "Better as a book than an audio book"
    "I've expected something more useful."
If you could sum up The Amen Solution in three words, what would they be?

    Not so useful.

Would you ever listen to anything by Daniel G. Amen again?

    I'm afraid not

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    it doesn't apply

    Any additional comments?

I found a lot of common things we can find in several articles. The details were repetitive but there wasn't really a stuff that could make a real change in my understanding.
