The author clearly did tons of research for this book, prepared it very well, and did a good job narrating it. I was more than surprised just how little I knew about the Islam with the exception of the Mongol invasion and its earlier relation to Byzantine but my knowledge of those topics were through the eyes of western historians.
I would have liked more detail about European colonization of the Islamic world and much more about more current social issues in the Islamic world.
I do recommend this to anyone who has an interest in current events and how we go into such a mess with the entire Islamic world or just folks who like good history.
As for me, I will let this roll around in my head for 6 to 12 months this listen to it again to see what I missed.
This, in my opinion, is Connelly's best Bosch book. In fact, it might be his overall best. Everything seems to be much more realistic and Harry does not seem to be such an arrogant fool but he still crosses the line when he thinks it necessary.
I saw the movie first then downloaded the book. Wow, the movie was good but the book is so much better. Although I have never been in that part of the US, the same type of family and drug rings can be found in Northern California where I grew up so I can identify with the book. Well written and with strange but credible characters, I would recommend this book to everyone.
How we arrived an our current language is an amazing story reflected in this book. I highly recommend this book to any and all who want to know about the evolution of our language.
This book blew me away. I was a bit hesitant to buy it but I did because I enjoy the author's other books. This was very much a departure and in a very good way. As usual, the author seems to get lost in the details at times but later those details become very important.
I thought this was a very delightful book but was surprised that I never new the original ending. Anne Hathaway did d wonderful job reading the book which added to my overall enjoyment.
For those of you who have never read the original, try this - you will not be disappointed.
I thought this would be a good story about the possible unlawful use of force by the American military in other countries and, to a large degree, it was. But, in telling the story, the author also provided an incredible picture of one of the most effective and efficient non-traditional military forces in the world - JSOC. It amazes how well they are trained, supplied, and led while, at the same time, are abused by the very government they serve.
This was one of the best books I have read about the US special operations world.
Great book but I am a fan of Sam Harris so I am bias. I don't think this is a book for everyone and would probably discourage the far right Christians from reading or listening to it.
I was surprised at just how well written this book was. The author was constantly entertaining and making me laugh while providing some great information. I would recommend this book to all political junkies but, be warned, when you are finished with the book Washington, politics, and journalism will have a different meaning.
Mickey is back and better than before. If the cops can cut corners so can defense lawyers and Haller does it with style.
It seems his personal life is getting better and the Haller team is really starting to shine even with the setbacks. I hope to see him again.
