Eighty-nine-year-old Isabelle McAllister has a big favor to ask her hairdresser, Dorrie. She wants the black single mother to drop everything and drive her from Texas to a funeral in Ohio - tomorrow. Dorrie, fleeing problems of her own and curious about Isabelle’s past, agrees, not knowing it will be a journey that changes both their lives. Isabelle confesses that, as a teen in 1930s Kentucky, she fell in love with Robert Prewitt, a would-be doctor and the black son of her family’s housekeeper - in a town where blacks weren’t allowed after dark. The tale of their forbidden relationship and its tragic consequences just might help Dorrie find her own way.

I truly enjoyed this listen . As a hairstylist of 21 years I could so relate to so many of the things Dory said ,did and to the relationships she had with some of her clients. Sometimes if you are loving people like Dory and I ,we get our hearts broke by getting so close to people. This story was a picture of a beautiful relationship though.

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

I was very disappointed after starting, midway, forcing myself to continue and finally being so excited to finish "The Book Thief." I kept thinking it had to get better since it had been on the best seller list so long and even had a movie made of it, but just could not get into it. A few times I googled part summaries online and read those just to try to understand what all I had read in the pages or chapters after I read them, due to all the foreign words mixed in. I enjoyed the Ann Frank story and Jodi Picolts book about the former Nazi, but this one lacked drama or suspense. I also didn't quite get the speaker at the end, was it suppose to be the Devil carrying all those people off? Very weird to me. Glad to start a new book! :)

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a "wonderful" husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical - most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver. Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent - and on a quest of her own....

It's finally over- great can't wait to start a new book in my library. I about gave up so so many times but would go back to Audibles reviews and even written book reviews to find people that felt like me and there weren't many. I just didnt find the book interesting , funny, dramatic or sweet in any way. The voice was very annoying. All the scientific talk on genetic was way hard to understand without having illustrations in front of me. I had to think way to hard to stay caught up.it ended as I was doing my Holiday cooking and I totally didnt understand the end. Maybe I was too focused on other stuff.
