Roller coaster ride
A poor comparison, but the only books I can compare A Memory Of Light to would the the mega battle scenes from the Sci-Fi Lensman Series by E.E. Doc Smith where millions of battleships and dreadnoughts would fight to the death with no quarter asked or given.
An exhausting book that will drive you to the depths of depression then slowly but surely pull you back to the light. The "Final Battle" was just PERFECT.
I simply loved that it was a classic Space Opera story in the old tradition of E.E. "Doc" Smith. I mentioned in a review of the first book that Saxon Andrew writes in the style of Doc Smith and he's impressed me even more with The Power Of A Queen. I'm sure there are many who will nit-pick the writing and find faults here and there but my only complaint is that it was too short and now I have to wait for book 3...hopefully coming SOON. If you just want to enjoy the ADVENTURE and don't want to have to "think" much about "the science" then you'll love this story like I did.
I've only previously listened to Liam in the original Annihilation book and I find the for the first 20 minutes or so I'm thinking that I might not like his narration but in both books I quickly got used to his style and even appreciate what he brings to the story.
No question about it. I couldn't stop until the end and then was very disappointed that it was over.
Just that I'm hoping Audible will jump on this series and get the rest of the books produced sooner rather than later. (Are you reading this Audible???)
Purchased this audio book purely on the fact that a couple of previous reviews made comparisons to the E E Doc Smith and his great space adventure books. I wasn't immediately convinced but as the story rolled on it hooked me and now I want more. No hard sci-fi here...just a fun story and high adventure with some original and novel tech to drive the military aspect of the story. I'm now hoping that Audible picks up the rest of Saxon Andrew's works. (C'mon Audible...please make it SOONER and not later.
Just a good fun read without the long winded technical crap. Good story that pushed a lot of emotional buttons.
Took a LITTLE getting used to but overall quite satisfactory and he did add quite a lot to the emotional part of the story.
I have to admit that the emotional scenes tugged on the old heart strings harder than most other books I've enjoyed.
I've been hoping and praying that another author would come along with the style and sense of adventure that E E Doc Smith displayed in the Lensman series. I know this is only my first Saxon Andrew book but think (at this point at least) he's got a new fan in me!
Actually, I hated the ending...BUT I also LOVED the ending. What can I say? It just came out of left field and took me totally by surprise. Really unexpected!! Can't wait for the book 4.
I'd have to say Weston of course. A real "man's man" in the tradition of the heroes from the books by E E Doc Smith (which I highly recommend).
Just books one and two and loved them both.
The narration was very well done as I find most of the books from Audible are.
The story takes place in an interesting universe and I was entertained by the technology that was developed and used. But I'd read this story / plot years ago in a book by Tom Clancy called
I have to say that I loved the first two installments in the Troy Rising series but "The Hot Gate" left me seriously dissappointed. One can only take so much discussion about the latino / anglo cultural differences which seem take up several hours of this story line. Listen to the first hour and that last 3 hours and you won't miss anything but the frustration of waiting for a story to develope. Praying that book 4 is better,
A fun ride...NOT ! The only thing entertaining about this book is the ability of the reader to use the various accents to perfection...which is why I give it the single star. Based on the previous review I stuck to this book waiting for an entertaining story that never developed. I'll be avoiding the sequel like the plague.
