You can tell his already exceptional storytelling skills are honed and at a thus far peak in this book. I laughed & cried- I loved it even though it was a "cancer book" because it's not a cancer book. It's a great story about the experiences of a girl, facing a thing in life like we all face things in life. The gift if getting to be in Hazel's head is one I hope gets repaid to John Green a million times over for the rest of his days.
Just be prepared to go buy the hard copy when you are done, because you will have a visceral urge to underline, hug and treasure these words.
I wish I could give this book extra stars. I feel bad for having him-hawed over whether or not to listen to this one. I love cooking from scratch and thought that perhaps there would be a few basics or tricks covered in here I wasn't already familiar with. And there were lots of things I learned. As a non-fiction lover though, generally a narrative is not my favorite form of delivery- I loved her voice in this! She found a balanced sweet spot of personal stories & anecdotes with quality content and structure. I adored every min of this one!!
I did not expect to care much for this book, fearing it would be superficial or cheap or something. It was not, it was well organized, had an empowering & uplifting motivation to it. Great little narrative for when unrewarding but comfortable stagnancy sets in.
Slightly cheesy if anything, but in a degree I thought made it endearing.
And it did not disappoint. This author helped to found the Singularity University with Ray Kurzweil, hyper intelligent- he lays out examples of aspects of a very attainable abundant future of mankind and also gives insights to how we make these possibilities a reality. If you have ever found yourself saying "There has to be a way! But how?" in the face of todays surmounting global challenges, this books shows you a plethora of up and coming technologies that have every ability to change life as we know it, each in its own felt swoop. It is refreshing and inspiring to hear someone of such knowledge and background giving a voice to hope & optimism today.
It is not all the time that a non-fiction book gives me that feeling at the end "oh god, no one else around just experienced that. It CAN'T be over!" SAVOR THIS ONE
This author is seasoned, clearly practices his insights and has looked at humankind from an extensive number of angles, from academia to Hindi temples to the insights of the hive mentality of bees to our own feelings of connections to the whole.
I cannot recommend this author and book enough.
This free first lesson (and introduction to the learning process) was so exciting. I LOVE their process and this one lesson is all it takes to taste and know if it's right for you. I found the lessons to be exciting & I look forward to them each day. Digestible and leave me totally confidant in the conversational topics covered!
I have since continued into the following units & am very grateful for whatever it is about Pimsleur method that is worlds apart, more comfortable and natural than any other language method I have been exposed to!
If you are looking for some fresh & modern insights into developmental philosophies based in recent research- this is it! It covers aspects of all age ranges, from how we speak to children, set their sleep patterns, & how they experience the world. Very insightful & well done!
This course is hands down the best spoken language resource I have ever gotten my earbuds on. I look forward to each day's lesson, it's in digestible chunks, I truly feel comfortable and proficient with the material. This course brings up the old lessons to review just at the perfect time to keep it fresh. I cannot recommend Pimsleur enough.
The only Cons:
1.) These courses will not get you ready for your trip this weekend necessarily, be at least 2 weeks out to get some basics
2.)Obviously this will do you worlds of good with oral skills but does not reference spelling for written
3.)Dutch program only goes to Unit 30! They do not have the later phases! So if you had hopes like me of those, accept that (For now at least) this is only a 6 week maximum course!
Absolutely everything else!
I so enjoyed every min of this speech. Full of not only solid principles of leadership and business but points on how to put them into practice as well. Also tied extremely well into how core principles can not be surface or business deep, being your best whole person is how his philosophy teaches growth. I was excited to go find more by the author after listening. Time very well spent!
