Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

This book had so much potential. I loved the concept and I thought it would be fascinating. It wasn't. Well, to be perfectly honest, I never finished it but I gave it about 5 1/2 hrs just to see if anything happened. Aside from the fact that the book is rather crass and that the main characters seem to enjoy a relationship not so much of love, sacrifice and devotion but consistenting entirely of sex.... well, nothing really happens. Perhaps if i finished the entire book I would discover something vaguely resembling a plot but I think I've given it plenty of opportunities to suck me in and it just hasn't. I can count on one hand the number of books I've stopped listening to/reading in the middle of and this book has earned the honor to be one of them.

After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

I'm completely kicking myself. I desperately needed a new series to read and have been enjoying juvenile fiction lately. The reviews looked pretty good at a cursory glance and so I bought all 4 books. At the same time. Without previewing them. I listened to the first one and was thoroughly confused. Where was the plot? It was more of a "really crappy introduction to the main characters" Seriously, it couldn't keep my attention at all and that's not like me. I never had any problem stopping or turning it off.

I finished the first book and thought the perhaps I was missing something. After all, there are all these glowing reviews, right? I even listened to all of the second one (I was desperate, OK?) and while the plot did seem to advance just a little bit, the writing was equally terrible and I was equally disinterested. I've given up. And I have to wonder about all those reviews......
