  • The Miracle at Speedy Motors: The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Alexander McCall Smith
    • Narrated By Lisette Lecat
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Mma Ramotswe is busy investigating her latest case: a woman who is looking for her family. The problem is, the woman doesn't know her real name of whether any members of her family are now living. Meanwhile, Phuti Radiphuti has bought Mma Makutsi a glorious new bed. Unfortunately, it will inadvertently cause her several sleepless nights.

glamazon says: "Not one word too long"
    "The Best"

I have loved all The no.1 Detective Agency books, but this one is the warmest, wittiest, funniest of them all. It made me smile and put a lump in my throat. I envy anyone who still has this lovely book ahead of them.

  • Absolute Power

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In a heavily guarded mansion in a posh Virginia suburb, a man and a woman start to make love, trapping a burglar behind a secret wall. Then the passion turns deadly, and the witness is running into the night - because what he has just seen is a brutal slaying involving the president of the United States.

Patti says: "Loved the book and the characters"

I like most Baldacci novels. This one, read by the wonderful Scott Brick, is, however, just the very best, and is among the best books I have ever read. It is gripping from the first sentence to last. Enjoy!

  • True Blue

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime. She lost everything-her badge, her career, her freedom-and spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own, and prove she has the right to wear the uniform.

Stephen says: "No connection to new heroine"
    "You Are Right"

This is a really bad book, as other reviewers have said. It does not hold together, it is boring. Just does not work.

I have liked most of Baldacci's other books.

  • Far From the Madding Crowd

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Thomas Hardy
    • Narrated By Jill Masters
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Thomas Hardy brings us an England that once existed but no more. It is rural, traditional, pastoral - a society of mannered conduct that flows like a deep river where powerful currents eddy and swirl. In this powerful novel of love and disillusion, Hardy's heroine is torn between the three men in her life. Passionate but capricious, her romantic involvements have fascinated generations of readers.

Connie says: "respite from the madding crowd"
    "The Reader Ruins It"

I love Thomas Hardy; I have read all his novels except this. From the beginning of listening to this one I was confused and could not get a handle on the characters. It soon dawned on me that the problem was the weakness of the reader.

  • Killing Floor

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Lee Child
    • Narrated By Dick Hill

All is not well in Margrave, Georgia. The sleepy, forgotten town hasn't seen a crime in decades, but within the span of three days it witnesses events that leave everyone stunned. An unidentified man is found beaten and shot to death on a lonely country road.

Ed says: "Comic book tough guy"
    "Very Exciting"

I have read a number of Reacher books, and I have enjoyed them all. This one, however, was the most exciting of all. I was completely absorbed and did not want it to end. Fabulous!

  • Darkest Fear

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 40 mins)
    • By Harlan Coben
    • Narrated By Jonathan Marosz
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Myron never saw it coming. A surprise visit from an ex-girlfriend is unsettling enough. But Emily Downing's news brings him to his knees. Her son Jeremy is dying and needs a bone-marrow transplant, from a donor who vanished without a trace. Then comes the real shock: the boy is Myron's son, conceived the night before her wedding to another man.

Richard Delman says: "Myron Bolitar retires. Harlan Coben moves on."

Mr. Coben has written some of the best suspense novels I've read,
but this listen was awful. It lacks Myron's usual humor; it was tedious and very boring. I could not wait for the end.

  • Company Man

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Joseph Finder
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Nick Conover, the son of a factory worker, is the CEO of a major corporation in a company town. Nick, once the most admired man in Fenwick, Michigan, is now, having presided over massive layoffs, the most despised. A single parent since the recent death of his wife, he's struggling to insulate his 10-year-old daughter and angry 16-year-old son from the town's hostility.

    James says: "Nail-biting suspense"
    "He Does it Again"

I loved "Paranoia" the last of Finder's books. But this novel far surpasses it. There are many characters in this book and they are all well drawn. I loved many of them even if they were working against eachother.
It is exciting from the beginning: heart pouding. So well written that I thoroughly enjoyed the way he brought instant life into every scene
After I finished it I felt the way I did after Hoag's "To kill the Messanger" - Satisfied!

  • Kill the Messenger

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Tami Hoag
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

At the end of a long day battling street traffic, bike messenger Jace Damon has one last drop to make. But en route to delivering a package for one of L.A.'s sleaziest defense attorneys, he's nearly run down by a car, chased through back alleys, and shot at. Only the instincts acquired while growing up on the streets of L.A. allow him to escape with his life, and with the package someone wants badly enough to kill for.

    Bethany says: "An entertaining read"
    "Kill the Messenger"

A fast paced, well written, thrilling story with pathos and charm.
Read by my favorite reader, Scott Brick. A must for the thrill seekers out there.

  • The Narrows: Harry Bosch Series, Book 10

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Len Cariou

FBI agent Rachel Walling finally gets the call she's dreaded for years: the one that tells her the Poet has returned. Years ago she worked on the famous case, tracking down the serial killer who wove lines of poetry into his hideous crimes. Rachel has never forgotten Robert Backus, the killer who called himself the Poet, and apparently he has not forgotten her either.

    Jon says: "Bosch again"
    "Anoother winner"

Michael Connelly is one of my favorite writers, but this book, The Narrows, top all the rest. It is beautifully written. The characters and their relationships are well drawn. But it is the excitement that kept me listening non-stop. When I had 3 hours left I uplugged my phone and listened!

  • The Murder Room: An Adam Dalgliesh Mystery

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By P.D. James
    • Narrated By Charles Keating
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Dupayne, a small private museum in London, is in turmoil. As its trustees argue over whether it should be closed, one of them is brutally and mysteriously murdered. Yet even as Commander Adam Dalgliesh and his team proceed with their investigation, a second corpse is discovered. Someone in the Dupayne is prepared to kill and kill again. Still more sinister, the murders appear to echo the notorious crimes of the past featured in one of the museum's galleries: the Murder Room.

    Jim says: "Classic P.D. James"

James gives us orginanal, well developes characters in a lushous setting. She unfoldes her plot with painstaking care. Every nuance adding to the beautiful picture she paints.
John Keating reads the book spledidly, giving voice to manyy accents. Hiis reading just tops it off perfectly.
