Twins, one for living and one for parts! Only in a Pendergast novel and this is only one segment. Great book as always.
I rarely give a book a 5 star rating and then it's usually something that has some kind of a profound message or story (Kite Runner-Memoirs of a Geshia) but although this wasn't that kind of book, it was a fantastic read. I finally turned it off at 3 am (had to work the next day) and started it again as I made breakfast.
If you are looking for a far better than normal read, performed perfectly by Scott Brick, this is it.
I always am entertained by Lee Child. The premise of this was interesting and it was worth my credit, but I didn't feel it was as good as some of his other works.
The story idea was good, but just didn't catch me as not being able to put the book down.
I also felt that the the relationship between Jack Reacher and the "powers that be" was rather unbelieveable.
As I said, a good read but most likely a book I won't remember in the future. (One of the prime things that I think makes a good book)
These are people with all the flaws and goodness that we see all the time but perhaps we dont feel compasson or take the time to understand. The crime is horrific. The motivation ....well read and decide.
I read audiobooks everyday as I work outside and some of my work allows this. Stephen Hogan is the best reader I have heard. The beauty of Tana French's writing style makes just listening a pleasure for the words alone.
This is the first book I have read from this author but absolutely not the last.
I have given only a few books a 4 star rating but there was no question about this one.
This is not a book that I am going to ponder over and think about for weeks, but is was, as always with Baldacci, a good read.
His characters are interesting, his stories are not boring and there is always excitement. Definitely worth a credit.
Jude Deveraux is always a good romance read. That said, this is an ok book but nowhere near the quality of something like Knight in Shining Armor.
If you're looking for a nice book to relax with, this is just fine. I don't regret the credit, but I'm sure that I won't remember the plot for very long.
There was a fun story line but certainly not one of her best books.
The premise of this book is a serious problem that has gotten nearly no widespread media coverage. Having it put in a novel of this quality will at least get those who follow Baldacci informed and perhaps that can make all of us more aware.
It was frightening to hear the thought that there was no problem getting more of this "product" as there would always be a glut of the poor.
Aside from that, this was a well written book with a plot that kept me wanting to continue reading.
The only reason I kept on with this book is that I was doing outside labor and it was better than nothing. I also hate to delete a book I have paid for so I kept on. Then came the actual story.
Why this author had to drag out the first 2/3rds I don't know. Could I say it was worth the time to get to the last 1/3rd? I'm not sure, but it was fascinating. I had no idea of the ending and the ending was so.....great.
Obviously, my review is mixed. Am I glad I read this book? Yes I am. Would I read another by this author? I think I would try one more.
As I got closer to the end, it was more and more interesting. I didn't want to turn it off and I wasn't disappointed.
I rated the story itself as a 4 star but know you are in for a long and draggy beginning and middle.
I thought this was the best book about Lincoln I had read. The details of all the people around him and all the specifics about them and their lives as well as Lincoln's were fascinating. The timeline of all of this put things into perspective too.
The reason I gave a lower performance rating wasn't that O'Riley didn't do a good job of naration for the most part, but the mispronounciation of several words drove me crazy. Primarily calvary for cavalry. The word was used over and over. At first I thought I was hearing incorrectly, but I wasn't!
You always know what you are going to get in a Jack Reacher book and it's like coming back to a person you know. Along with that, they keep my interest and I always get the new one.
However....this story was just plain boring. So much so that only 2 weeks after I finished it, I don't think I could tell you what it was about!
I'll buy the next one but PLEASE make it interesting.
