"I promise - you'll love it"
Starting with the author's notes at the beginning, to the very last paragraph, this was a fabulous listen. The reader was excellent, the story rich, the characters believable and intelligent. What a magnificent novel...Bryce Courtnay is brilliant author capturing in this fictional work both historical and ethical issues.
"Edgar Sawtelle ... a 2008 winner"
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle is first-rate, and my favorite book this year. So addicted, I had to buy the hardback so I could read at night. So addicted, I then had to slow my reading to delay the inevitable ending. Rich character development of both saints and sinners. A dastardly conniving uncle, dogs that have personalities that I could only wish that people I know would have, Edgar's true friends ... This book, like a really great movie or glass of wine, left me with wanting more, to know what happened next, where can I find dogs like these, and questions that you will craft yourself that I have not yet entertained. I am still thinking about "Edgar" ...
"One of the best yet"
I thoroughly enjoyed this book -- the characters, the sweeping story, the rich details, even the readers. I was so sorry it ended, that I jumped to the 2nd in the trilogy, forgetting everything else.
