Dellarobia Turnbow is a restless farm wife who gave up her own plans when she accidentally became pregnant at 17. Now, after a decade of domestic disharmony on a failing farm, she encounters a shocking sight: a silent, forested valley filled with what looks like a lake of fire. She can only understand it as a cautionary miracle, but it sparks a raft of other explanations from scientists, religious leaders, and the media.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Story is great. Wish I had read it as the author is the narrator and is poor especially her Jamaican (?) accent.

    Any additional comments?

If this is never rerecorded with a professional narrator, read it instead. Sorry I love audio books but.....

  • Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Michael Lewis
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

    Story
    (999)

Moneyball reveals a quest for something as elusive as the Holy Grail, something that money apparently can't buy: the secret of success in baseball. The logical places to look would be the giant offices of major league teams and the dugouts. But the real jackpot is a cache of numbers collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

There were so many positive reviews for this book and because my husband (a baseball fan) were going on a road trip I thought this would be the best ever book to listen to. WRONG! Unless you are a total baseball stat freak it was as boring as watching paint dry. We stuck it out as at times there were glimmers of some humanness to the story then another chapter long rant about stats would come along.
I usually feel that the book is always better then the movie, not in this case. Skip the book and watch the movie.

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Lewis again?

    Yes, it was read well.

Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack is a letter addressed to Harold from a woman he hasn't seen or heard from in 20 years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye. Harold pens a quick reply and, leaving Maureen to her chores, heads to the corner mailbox. But then Harold has a chance encounter, one that convinces him that he absolutely must deliver his message to Queenie in person.

I thought it might be slow going but loved the characters and the narration was great
