"Abridged version leaves out too much!"
This is a fascinating story. I enjoyed this book; however, I then offered to lead a group book discussion on it. This made it essential for me to read the unabridged version. Now that I have done so, I think that the abridged version left far too much of interest out of the story. I wish that this book had been available from Audible.com as an unabridged book, and in the future I will avoid abridged books. I much prefer hearing the full story!
"Excellent book"
This is a marvelous book that brings to life this momentous and tragic event in our nation's history. Anyone who has visited that battlefield will benefit from reading this book, and anyone reading it who has not been to see that hallowed ground will want to go there. The book gives fascinating insights into the lives and views of the key historic figures involved, and the short summary at the end of what happened to those people after the battle was of great interest to me.
"One of Twain's best"
I have enjoyed several of Mark Twain's books both by reading them and, more recently, by listening to them as audible books. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are fantastic, but I actually enjoyed Pudd'nhead Wilson even more. The story is intriguing, and the Narrator does an excellent job with the dialects. The extra material at the end was fascinating in which Twain explained how he had trouble getting this book the way he wanted it to be because, he finally realized, it was two stories in one. He told how he had to kill off many of the characters (by having them fall into a well) to remedy the problem.
"Excellent story and very well read!"
This classic and fascinating story was extremely enjoyable. David Case did a splendid job of reading it! I now want to read more of the book by Dumas. The next one that I would like to read is The Three Musketeers; however, it is not available in unabridged format from Audible.com, and that is the only way in which I would read it. I hope that it will become available.
