Using a travel guide format, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee acts as tour guide extraordinaire, describing and critiquing every aspect of this territory she knows so well: its people (young and old, male and female), familiar phrases ("purl this, darn that"), strange beliefs, currency (skein trading), etiquette, holidays (any sale day at the local yarn shop), and customs. She notes important dates in knitting history and celebrates unsung knitting heroes.

Where does Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Top 10%

What about Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s performance did you like?

I can hear her delight with the magic that is knitting, and that makes me smile.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

She puts into words what many knitters feel but cannot express in a way others might understand.

    Any additional comments?

I hope she continues to record her books. I have all her printed books but only two audiobooks.

This series is absolutely perfect listening for road trips. Loved the ending. (And of course it is fun to hear the always imperious Sherlock go to pieces periodically.)

Neil Gaiman's "Chivalry" performed by Christina Pickles. A delicious tale of an elderly British matron who buys the Holy Grail at a rummage sale. Selected Shorts is a weekly public radio show broadcast on over 130 stations to about 300,000 listeners. It is produced by Symphony Space and WNYC RADIO and distributed by Public Radio International. The radio show is recorded live at the popular New York City stage show which began in 1985 and still enjoys sell-out audiences today at the Peter Sharp Theater at Symphony Space on Broadway and 95th Street in New York City.

Good Omens was my second Neil Gaiman book (Don't Panic was first). This story seems to have a bit of Terry Pratchett hovering in the background, and that makes me smile.

I am a Douglas Adams fan, and enjoy it when his work is brought back to life. Listening to Billy Boyd play Richard is a wonderful bonus.

My hope is that someday there will also be an unabridged version of the original book.
