I wasn't familiar with the author, but he's funny and thoughtful. I enjoyed this very much.
It took a bit to get into the story, but then I enjoyed it very much. At first it was just snappy dialogue, but then deeper aspects of the characters begin to emerge.
The narrator's exaggerated Black dialect freaked me out a little, but once I overcame that, I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the evolution (devolution?) of the main character.
This should turn the food and diet industries on their heads. It certainly makes a lot of sense. I wish I had known these things 30 years ago!
Long stretches of exposition, fair performances, and draggy in spots, with looong speeches with no "live" action. I was glad when it ended.
Plenty of action and complexity, as well as memorable characters. I enjoyed the cultural and mythical references. Great narrator. I was sorry to see it end.
The continuing characters are wonderful, there are enough stories and surprises to keep me happily listening, and the narrator is great!
This has been such an enjoyable listen, and I dreaded coming to the end, but now I see that this is the first of a nice long series! I'm ridiculously happy.
Not much happens for the first hour, but it gets better. The narrator is okay, but his style is slow and ponderous.
I'll admit it took me a little while to get into this book, but then I couldn't stop listening. What a great tale--full of twists and turns and unexpected elements. There's a wonderfully dry sense of humor at work here. I totally loved it.
I kept waiting for something unique or interesting to happen, but it never did. And the narrator sounds like she's doing an infomercial....
