A little confusing during first half hour and a little too drawn out last hour but all in all the story developed well and the characters were interesting. Fast paced and NOT boring. The narrator was excellent and deserves 5 stars. He really made the book for me.
Hiassen's colorful characters come to life through the audible medium! I own every book he's written in both book and audio form for this reason.
I listened to Bad Monkey over two days and LOVED it. Hiassen's quirky, hilarious and questionably ethical characters keep the story rolling along at a perfect pace. I wish Skink was in every book he writes but this time I didn't miss him!
I would highly recommend this book. It's characters are simply endearing, beloved and well-developed. This is truly my favorite Dave Robicheaux tale out of all of the 19 books.
The dialog is natural and true to these characters. Nothing seems forced or contrived.
I am a huge Clete fan, however Will Patton IS Robicheaux. I have tried to go back to the earlier books but without Patton it's not the same.
I finished the last 30 min of this book with lots of anxiety about the fate of Burke's characters I've come to love so much. Clete is featured much in this installment. We could all use a friend like Clete. This book's ending has a big cliffhanger! I look forward to another in the series A.S.A.P.! Do yourself a favor and get to know Dave Robicheaux pre- "The Glass Rainbow". It probably stands alone for most but much better with some history. "The Tin Roof Blowdown" and "A Morning for Flamingos" are a couple I particularly enjoyed.
Jeannette Walls has captured the voice of her grandmother through this excellent novelization of her family history. An inspiring story for men and women alike. Less horrific than her first book (Glass Castle) but equally as engaging. In fact, if you have not read The Glass Castle-- read this first.
First off, I love this series but I will admit not every story in this series is 5 star worthy. "Long Lost" is-- with the only exception being the narrator. He failed to give our beloved characters the voices they deserved. That being said, I got over it, only cringing here and there. The story was worth it. Loved the totally creepy cliff-hanger ending. Love Winn, Esparanza, Big Cindy and Mr. and Mrs. Bolitar. Please Harlan Coben, don't make me wait too long for more Myron Bolitar!
The first part of the book is a little slow. Getting used to he Swedish names and locations can a bit confusing at first but the well-written story is great all the way to the last word. I highly recommend adding this to your library. I hope this author will translate more of his books to English. One of my favorites of 2008.
A fantastic prequel to the other Andy Carpenter stories. A short listen but well worth the credit I used to purchase it with. Andy is just as witty and quick thinking as ever. I enjoyed it very much. Grover Gardner IS Andy Carpenter. I highly recommend this book!
This book was extremely well-written, however, almost overshadowing that fact was the excellence of its storyteller. This is an audio theatre lovers absolute dream book. I am very happy when a long listen can keep me interested until the very end. Bravo!
Another perfect book by one of my all-time favorite authors, Harlan Coben. I was sad Coben's latest book did not include my fictional dream man, Myron Bolitar, however, this unsettling story made up for it, hitting very close to home. As the young mom of a teenage daughter, I was profoundly disturbed by the hauntingly realistic themes. 'Would you want your parents to know all that about you?'" Technology and our children can be dangerous and scary. I highly recommend this book.
