"Tremendously Enlightening, could not put it down"
I am a married Mother of 1 Son and 2 Step-sons. I have never served in the military and honestly do not have any close ties to the Military, other than my Father who served in Korea and a cousin who was killed in Vietnam during the TET offensive. Though I would prefer the world was all Love and Light with no war ever; that is just not how it is. I have strong feelings about the war on both sides of the issue, I respect others thoughts and opinions as their own; but no matter what I respect and support the courage, strength and patriotism of each and every member of our Military. I begin this review this way so that you can see I am a regular Jane.
This book is written from Chris Kyle a Navy SEal's perspective. It is about his life growing up in Odessa Texas and follows him through his life as a Navy SEal, from BUDS training to the war in Iraq and life during and after from his POV. If you are looking for fluff, BS and watered down opinions this book is not for you. Chris tells it like he saw it good, bad or indifferent from his POV. During the reading of this book I cringed, I smiled, I chuckled, I felt uneasy and a bit queasy, I cried and felt sad, but I was completely engaged the entire time. At no point did I feel lost or feel like I did not understand something. (Keeping in mind I am just a regular Jane); Chris explains acronyms, procedures and operations as the story moves along and talks in plain "Texan". Peppered throughout the book, Taya, Chris' wife gives us a heartfelt view of life with Chris. My heart could only bleed for her, Thank you Taya and "God Bless" you for all that you sacrificed for your country. And Chris for the record though you say (several times I might add) throughout the book that you do not consider yourself a "Bad Ass".........Uh Chris, you were a FEARLESS BAD ASS, period end of subject.
I am glad I decided to read this book; as honesty goes, Chris does not pull any punches and truly seems sincere in all his accounts of how things went down. I am not by nature one to believe everything I read and use quite of a bit of discernment as a rule, but at no point did I feel that anything but the truth as Chris saw it went from pen to paper.
Thank you Chris and every single person at home or deployed who Stand and Protect our great country. And thank you to all the Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Wives and Children who sacrifice so those brave men and woman can do just that.
This is a must read for anyone who wants to read a firsthand account of the sacrifices the men and women of our armed forces endure on a daily basis.
"Very insightful"
The story was good when it was not being bleeped out (though I understand the reason for it) and when Don gave us insight on his missions as a SEAL. I found myself drifting when he talked about his life as a marathon runner, bicyclist and all the other physical forms of torture he enjoyed so much outside of the SEAL teams. I found myself rooting for the wives and then getting angry for them. Normally I blast through a book, this one took me a bit longer because there were parts that simply did not hold my interest. All in all I thought it was an interesting account of life as a Navy SEAL Medic, but maybe if it was heavier on his missions and less on the grueling things he put himself through outside of the missions, it might have held more of my interest. However I think the book was well written and it flowed easily considering the redactions. This book probably won't be my go to book when I am looking to read/listen to a book a second time, but I am glad I took the time to hear it through. There is no doubt that Don is a true Patriot with adrenaline to spare.
"Awesome read"
Wow, what can I say about this book to make you run out and read it? Marcus is in every sense of the word an "American Patriot" at it's best. The bravery, the loss, the pain, the fear, the courage and appendages as big as bowling balls of Marcus Luttrell make this book a don't put down until you finish it kind of book.
For those who have strong opinions about President Bush, the media or killing, you probably won't like this book, but read it anyway. With that said I am one of those bleeping liberals Marcus speaks so highly of (wink). It simply did not stop or deter me from reading on or take away from the punch of this book. I absolutely support our armed forces and all that they stand for. So even though I support my political party I am also bright enough to see both sides of an issue and respect every persons opinion as just that an opinion, we all have em. Marcus and all men and women like him put their lives on the line for "us' the people of the United States of America; Democrats, Republicans and Independents everyday and I for one appreciate them.
No matter what your feelings about the war are, Marcus' words will make your heart swell with American pride, your belly ache for what he went through and make your eyes brim (if not full out cry like I did)with tears for the pain he endured physically and the pain of heartbreak for the men he loved like brothers.
Marcus manages to slip in his sense of humor which helped the ache in my belly on more than one occasion.
I have children; I can only imagine what his parents and brother were going through.
It seems so inadequate but Thank You Marcus I as one of the "People of the United States" will hold you and all the men and women who serve, past, present and future, and those who have lost their lives in service to our great country in my prayers today and always.
"A race to save the world."
This was a different paranormal twist novel and I enjoyed that it was different.
Remy Chandler and his reluctant side kicks.
The touching scenes with his wife.
the touching scenes with his wife.
Luke Daniels did a great job with Remy's voice.

"Awesome"
The narrator was awesome, he made the entire read excellent.
When Atticus shows up on the old lady's porch naked and then she can't help but tease him about putting away the twig and berries, it was hysterical.
Everything, he is EXCELLENT.
Wild Ride
"Awesome"
Love those Kowalski boys.
When Sean realized he loved Emma.
I have listened to most if not all of Lauren's performances. She is awesome, she is always good. As a matter of fact I search out the book she performs because I like her performances so much.
Definitely made me laugh in some spots and cry in others.
