Ballad of the Whiskey Robber tells the hilarious and improbable true story of Attila Ambrus, the Robin Hood of Eastern Europe. He's the onetime pelt smugger, goaltender (possibly the worst in the history of pro hockey), pen salesman, Zamboni driver, gravedigger, church painter, roulette addict, building superintendent, whiskey drinker, and native of Transylvania who's decided that the best thing to do with his time is to rob as many banks as possible.

    S. Hawkins says: "Fantastic"
"Buckle your seat belt for this ride!"
    Overall

The Whiskey Robber certainly was an interesting character and I can't help but think, had he been focused differently, what he could have accomplished. This book is narrated by the author and as usual this is not the best idea, yet there are enough other voices to enhance the storytelling. Based on a true story about a Hungarian (actually displaced Romanian) robber who becomes a Folk Hero. A truly fascinating man and his tale is entertaining.

Sheriff Walt Longmire had already rounded up a sizable posse of devoted readers when the A&E television series Longmire sent the Wyoming lawman’s popularity skyrocketing. Now, in Any Other Name, Walt is sinking into high-plains winter discontent when his former boss, Lucian Conally, asks him to take on a mercy case in an adjacent county. Detective Gerald Holman is dead and Lucian wants to know what drove his old friend to take his own life.

Would you listen to Any Other Name again? Why?

Yes, I will re-listen to the whole series again because it will be like revisiting old friends.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love all three main characters, Walt, Henry Standing Bear, and Vic, they embody loyalty, commitment and passion.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Tony Hillerman's novels used to be my favorite of George Guidall's narrations but move over Leaphorn, Longmire's here to stay.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Get Me to the Birth On-Time!

    Any additional comments?

In between all the action, suspense and drama Craig Johnson always includes some lol, what more can you ask for?

Nobody in the Scottish town of Cnothan had liked the abrasive Englishman, and now that he has been murdered in a most original fashion, nobody much minds. Constable Hamish Macbeth's hard luck is that he happens to be on temporary duty in this cloistered Highlands village when the killer strikes. And he has his work cut out for him, dragging from Mainwaring's close-mouthed neighbors enough facts to start solving this peculiar case.

What made the experience of listening to Death of an Outsider the most enjoyable?

The Hamish Macbeth series has a kaleidoscope of wonderful characters who you quickly get to know and enjoy meeting again in each one of these mysteries. There are a few annoying redundant issues that I sometimes find a bit irritating, like his ongoing relationship with his superior (explaining the overall 4 stars instead of 5), but that hasn't stopped me from eagerly awaiting the next book. (explaining the story 5 star rating)

What about Davina Porter???s performance did you like?

At first I wondered why they would decide to have a woman read this 3rd person narrative when the main character is a man, but as soon as I started listening I was immediately captivated and delighted with her outstanding performance.

Award-winning author Craig Johnson's critically acclaimed debut Western mystery takes listeners to the breathtaking mountains of Wyoming for a tale of cold-blooded vengeance. Four high-school boys were given suspended sentences for raping a Cheyenne girl. Now, two of the boys have been killed, and only Sheriff Walt Longmire can keep the other two safe.

Dataman says: "Not Your Ordinary Western Novel (Series)"
    "Extremely entertaining writer!"
    Overall

The humor throughout was fantastic, even when the ???who-done-it??? was a tad convoluted for my taste. This western is set in WY, with mention of Billings, MT. In addition to ???Walt??? (the sheriff), there is ???Bear??? (along with his native ancestors) and ???Vic??? (a sassy east cost female deputy sheriff) spicing up the dialogue.

This is one of the Hard Case Series. A friend clued me into the fact that this was a series way back when I read [I:]"The Colorado Kid" [/I:]by Stephen King, which I really enjoyed. When the Catriona Beldame is found murdered and her home set ablaze, Hamish Macbeth must clear his own name and then work to solve yet another murder to bring peace and quiet back to his beloved village. His investigations are complicated by a romance with a female forensic expert. Perhaps the Scotish Highlands' most stubborn bachelor will get married at last!

I came to this series via this book, which happens to be the back door (# 25 in the Hamish Macbeth series. Enjoyable characters, but it is clear that there are established relationships that you don't have the background on. I enjoyed this one enough to try and track down more of this series. The narrator was a good choice for this book.

Yet another excellent Mary Russell novel. The pace, tension and suspense of this installment in the series comes close to equaling the edge of your seat reading contained in her stand alone novel "Folly".
Some have complained about the post script, but if you follow the author, this is not a surprise and was planned for.
