  • Lullaby Town: An Elvis Cole - Joe Pike Novel, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Robert Crais
    • Narrated By Mel Foster
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Hollywood's newest wunderkind is Peter Alan Nelson, the brilliant, erratic director known as the King of Adventure. His films make billions, but his manners make enemies. What the boy king wants, he gets, and what Nelson wants is for Elvis Cole to comb the country for the airhead wife and infant child the film-school flunkout dumped en route to becoming the third biggest filmmaker in America.

    K. Shaw says: "A great Elvis and Joe Pike read"
    "Lullaby Town by Robert Crais"

Much less than I expected. The reader almost put me to sleep and now I will not listen to Voodoo River or whatever the title is. Dick Hill and a few other readers have spoiled me I guess. Yawn......

  • Robert Ludlum's (TM) The Bourne Ascendancy

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Eric Van Lustbader
    • Narrated By Holter Graham

In this thrilling and absorbing new novel Jason Bourne is faced with an impossible mission. He has been hired to impersonate a high-level government minister at a political summit meeting in Qatar, shielding the minister from any assassination attempts. Suddenly, armed gunmen storm the room, killing everyone but Bourne. Their target, however, isn't the minister Bourne is Bourne himself.

Barbara says: "I can't believe how lame this book comes off."
"Holter was incredibly hard to follow."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing. Story too chopped up and the reader (personal preference) was horrible.

What could Eric Van Lustbader have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I like the other Bourne books, but he let me down here.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Soft voice almost mumbling at times. Strained the whole book to understand the next word. New reader would be the only way I could listen to this again or recommend to anyone. I listen to the books in my library several times, but not this one.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

  • D.C. Dead: A Stone Barrington Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Stuart Woods
    • Narrated By Tony Roberts
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

After a shocking loss, Stone Barrington is at loose ends, unsure if he wants to stay in New York and continue his work as a partner at Woodman & Weld. It comes as a welcome relief when he's summoned to Washington, D.C., by President Will Lee. The president has a special operation that calls for Stone's unique skill set, and it's a mission that will reunite him with his former partner in crime and in bed, Holly Barker.

William says: "The Stone Barrington Series Seems Back on Track"
    "Predictably incredible!"

Stone Barrington's character is predictably unpredictable. Intrigue as usual. Always a good choice.

  • The Art of Racing in the Rain

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Garth Stein
    • Narrated By Christopher Evan Welch
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

Lora says: "Enzo (because he's so wize) for president."
"If looking for the beginning of a spiritual experi"

Word from a friend caused me to buy the book. I don't share his enthusiasm, but the book contained a big message and several small messages. It was a positive experience and I could relate to how a dog might see things the way the story is told.

It is now up to them to ask the questions no one seems to want answered....

    "The Sixth Man"

Best of his adventures yet. Only took 2 days to complete the listen. He's definitely at the top of his game.
