  • Winter of the World: The Century Trilogy, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (31 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Ken Follett
    • Narrated By John Lee
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.

    Tim says: "Brilliant Sequel"
"This is perhaps my favorite Ken Follett"
What made the experience of listening to Winter of the World the most enjoyable?

John Lee is a wonderful narrator and brings the story to life.

What did you like best about this story?

I happen to love WWII stories so I was preconditioned to enjoy the subject matter. I was not disappointed and wished it had gone on for another three hundred pages! Characters were well defined and all of the different stories were woven together as Ken Follet does so well. Historically quite accurate and informative which is a big plus for me.

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay, a hidden society of beggars and gangsters, prostitutes and holy men, actors and exiles.

    Nathan says: "Absolutely top notch"
    "superb narration!"

I wish I would have purchased the unabridged, I didn't want it to end :(

  • The Mists of Avalon

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs)
    • By Marion Zimmer Bradley
    • Narrated By Natasha Richardson

More than just a retelling of the legend of King Arthur, this tale is seen through the eyes of the women who wielded power behind the throne. First there is the beautiful Queen Gwynhefar, torn between duty to her king and passion for the dashing Lancelot. Then there is Morgaine, Arthur's half sister and high priestess in the enchanted land of Avalon. Morgaine's one wish is to wrest Britain away from Christianity and restore worship of the Mother Goddess. Both women struggle, suffer, and - in their own ways - triumph.

What a travesty! I can't believe that Marrion Zimmer Bradley would sanction a release in this form. If you haven't read this book please don't start here. It is well worth your time either to wait for Audible to purchace the unabriged version, or read the book.
